Southeast of Geneva - Bonneville?

Hi,
I'm starting to work in Geneva soon. I'm trying to find out how much it would cost me and how long it would take me to get to Geneva centre from Bonneville or area around it. I'd like to find a place in that area not so much to save money but because I'd just like to be closer to mountains and commuting around 45 minutes is not a problem. I seem not to be able to find any good web site with information about any connection to Geneva (I won't have car on the beginning). Anybody can help either with Bonneville or any place on the way from Geneva to mountains with kind of good connection?

Thank you much

to the EF!

The CFF online timetable is your friend!

Unfortunately the commute is quite a bit longer than 45 minutes. Since you will commute to work every day and visit the mountains occasionally I wonder if a shorter work commute and a longer time to get to the mountains might not be a better option.

Without a car, forget it! There are no connections.

Even with a car, it is not an easy commute, always backed up at rush hours, plan over an hour, depending on where you need to go in GVA.

Hi Onakutin, welcome to the Forum!

I agree with the others, Bonneville is a nice little town but I wouldn't recommend to live there unless you have a car. And as what runningdeer said, even if you do have a car it's not an easy commute, you will probably lose about 2 hours a day on driving to and from work.

Have you considered looking at residences around the Ferney-Voltaire/Prevessin-Moens/Gex area? It's on the west side of geneva, got more connections and the area is not too far from Mount Jura.

Good luck!

As I wrote on that thread, until CEVA is finished, still many years away, you can forget about train service in neighboring France. Some Geneva buses that go into nearby areas may be possible, but please don't plan anything around French trains.

Re: Southeast of Geneva - Bonneville?

Oddly I moved to Geneva about 3 weeks ago and work on the SW side of the city, we too are moving into France but to get a realistic commute, and be able to use Swiss transport (tpg.ch) you are limited to Annemasse, to St Julien in the south and St Genis/Thoiry up to Divonne/Ferney Voltaire in the west...or head out to Nyon in the north but then your commutes are 40min plus.

If you want St Julien area has the Saleve, St Genis to Divinne has the Jura which are bigger and have ski slopes.....I do have a friend who lives in Chamonix but he works out of the country most of the time and only rarely has to commute to Geneva

Best of luck!

Hi,
Anybody can help either with Bonneville...
Have you been to Bonneville? A misnamed place if ever I saw one. (Bellegarde, as mentioned in a recent thread, is another.)
