Re: What's above us...?

Saw this over a year ago. It is cool, but not actually real time. It's delayed, I believe, by around 15 mins as a security precaution. When it first started it was indeed real time, but the authorities got concerned that it could be used by "bad people" and hence requested the delay.

Still very interesting though.

I find it funny that they delayed it, for the map isn't that detailed. Also, when you click on a plane it gives its altitude, speed etc. once you know the time delay it wouldn't be that hard to work out its approximate location.

I'd be interested to know if there are pages like this for ATC in other countries.

Cool site, didn't know something like this existed. Good for debunking my many many UFO sightings.

Kinda dissapointed though, I thought this was going to be another long circular religion thread.

Re: Aircraft Monitoring

the hare was a channel 16/0 operator a while ago ( hm coastguard) part time , but it kept me busy and awake during the dark hours and on sunny afternoons ....truth is once youve heard "xxxx coastguard, xxxx coastguard ,xxxx coastguard , this is nlmk , position b b b , speed 000, heading 172 etc etc etc its quite numbing. there were some beauties in the mrcc (maritmie rescue coordination centre ) but they were usually married to ferry captains , not meant for budding youngsters treading the boards ....
love atc tho, always have a scanner on , .....

No, about a week later BAZL (swiss aviation authority) realised it was a fuss about nothing and allowed real-time again.

Not necessarily a fuss about nothing, but as long as you (anyone) can buy a
Mode S receiver, connect it to t'interweb and Mode S transmissions from all
interrogated aircraft about status, intent and location remain unencrypted,
what's the point of bolting the stable door when the stable has no walls?
.

Re: Aircraft Monitoring

Just out of curiosity, is anyone on the forum a pilot? I've been interested in getting into an airplane but it makes it difficult with my US ticket.

I'm pretty certain that Zürich Air Traffic won't assign a squawk code (transponder identity) to a UFO so you won't see them any more than you will see Swiss AF heavy metal flitting through the airways as they are squawking military codes which the site doesn't show.

A fuss about nothing, security theatre, security through obscurity, call it what you will.
