Deutsche Post and motoring association ADAC are looking into launching a joint long-distance bus service as an 80 year-old law guaranteeing Deutsche Bahn a near monopoly on longer journeys is due to be lifted.
The announcement comes as the underdeveloped German bus travel market is due to be opened up on January 1, 2013 after nearly 80 years of restriction under German law.
I recently found this bus to Munich and tested it out. I have made a video of the experience and would like to share it here with you. I can highly recommend this service!
As things stand, we will use the first routes in April. The first route we will connect 10 popular German cities. The site will go online on 1st March.
Can anyone update here on traveling by bus, coaches from Zurich to rest of Europe?
you could also check http://www.busliniensuche.de/busverbindungen/zuerich for an overview of coaches from zurich. Unfortunaetly, it's only available in german but I hope you still get the information you are looking for.

thanks for this info - very good news.
i want to go to munich, absolutely, but have never quite got round to paying the 150 quid train fare but (for all those who didn't check the link) you can get return from zurich for like 35 francs or something. it takes 4 hours.
nice video too, and while i like your suggestions for on-board entertainment, i.e. the packed lunch and tangerines, i might also add, don't forget the bottle of wine! there's nothing like arriving in a strange place blotto!

As long as some grumpy bus driver doesn't tell you you can't drink alcohol on the bus. And you can't unpack your sandwiches either. But he's still offended if you don't tip generously.
Re: Intercity Buses ( traveling from zurich to rest of Europe by bus )
thats a good point, while hiding booze is one thing (apple are releasing the brown paper bag 6.0 soon), hiding gin-soaked depravity is quite another i suppose.
your point about tipping the driver might be a joke - but i have to ask coz i don't know the custom, is tipping the driver 'a thing to do' round these parts?
