Basel Airport Parking Charges [Euroairport]

I'm flying from Basel Airport in January and want to park my car there for the duration of my trip (11 days).

Having checked their website, it appears the cost of parking on the Swiss side
of the airport is Fr 50.- more expensive than on the French side. I'm considering driving the extra 10 or 15 minutes into France to take advantage of the lower rate. I was wondering if any forum users have tried the same thing and, more importantly, does the French side of the airport impose any restrictions or extra charges for vehicles with Swiss plates?

Thanks

From their website:

Quote:
Can I park on the Swiss and on the French side? The EuroAirport is a binational airport with a French and a Swiss sector. Tariffs are calculated according to living costs in both countries.

Your car can be parked on either side (on the Swiss or on the French side). To cross the border from one country to the other you will need to use a border crossing beyond the airport site as there is no crossing for vehicles directly at the airport.

Your check in can be made at the Swiss or the French side as to your ticket. Passengers and visitors holding valid travelling documents can cross the Swiss-French border in the departure hall on the 3rd floor of the terminal.

The check-in for British Airways and EasyJet is to be made via the Swiss sector.
I have no direct experience with this but it seems to me they realise this question comes up often which is why they use the opportunity to say that the parking fees are calculated on the relative living costs of each country. I'm sure you'll have no problem.

Smitty,

Thanks for taking the time to check that out.

Perhaps next time I should give the website more than just a cursory glance.

Thanks again.

Re: Basel Airport Parking Charges [Euroairport]

I use the airport car park regularly.

When parking there for more than a day or so, I use the French side because it's cheaper, although you do have to go a bit of a long way round...

Book into Basel Airport hotel, costs about Sfr180-200 for a single room, you get free parking in their carpark for upto 2 weeks. Hotel is excellent, very good restaurant in Casin called Brasserie which is not expensive and whilst you're on holiday, your car is nice and safe in the dry at the hotel carpark.

Re: Basel Airport Parking Charges [Euroairport]

Okay, i know it isn't quite on topic but can anyone tell me where to park for arrivals in Basel airport? I need to collect some friends on January 18th at around 19.30 and am extremely confuddled by it all. Must I drive into France to get to the airport? I have looked on our map and it appears to be the case. What sort of nonsense is that. I don't have a tomtom or any other sort of routefinder, it is just me and a map. Yikes

There is a Swiss side & French side, suggest you follow the sign posts indicating "Euro airport" and you should get to the airport and find parking on the Swiss side. It's really well indicated and quite easy.....

Then Zug Bound should advice her friends to go through customs in the Swiss side as well.

Re: Basel Airport Parking Charges [Euroairport]

absolutely.

there are a few parkings spaces right at the terminal on the arrivals level (and some more ont he deaprtures level too) for drop offs and pick ups.

These are metered.

If your guests DO come through the wrong side, it IS possible to go find them (you can walk through the customs point to cross over into France and vice -versa, so long as you have your passport), but it saves a LOT of confusion if they come out of the right side. It's quite well marked so long as you know you need to look out for the signs....

Re: Basel Airport Parking Charges [Euroairport]

The motorway signs are very good and you can travel almost all the way to the border, where you'll enter a no-mans land type road in French territory with nowhere to go but the airport. Trust the signs!

Also, if using the multistory carpark for several days, go a few levels underground as the ground floor parking is exposed to the elements. If you're paying top whack, you might as well return to a warm car...
