| | | Scary Swissair landing.
Well, I'm back back in Switzerland after a lovely family visit. However, there was a moment when I thought I would never see our little flat again. Put it this way, we landed at Zurich airport at approximately 17.15...... and then again at 17.30 . Something to do with the strong winds I think.
It is the first time I have known the wheel to touch the ground, and then the plane to speed up rather than slow down!
Anyway, we're safe and sound after our extra little flight, so thank you Mr Pilot, whoever you were, you are my hero!

swissair went bankrupt about 10 years ago... but a go around is nothing to worry about and happens fairly often. oh and autopilot can be engaged 5 seconds after take off | | The following 11 users would like to thank rob1 for this useful post: | araqyl, Assassin, BaselLife, biff, Busby, Corbets, hannah'sauntie, Mark75, Oliver Jones, singabhadur, TexasLynette |

Don't think one really cares a hoot about the name of the airline when your plane takes off a 2nd time when it shouldn't.
Glad to hear that you are well.

Pilots are trained to bear in mind the writings of Robert Burns, as he observed a spider ....... better than cocking up at first attempt.

Just out of interest: Did the plane leave the ground a second time or did it speed up while on the ground? (nothing similar has happened to me so far, so I'm pretty slow on the uptake. Sorry )

Somebody behind us threw up, poor thing must have been a little scared!

when there are training flights they do about 50-100 touch and go's so its well practised, also in the simulator

Hi guys
I was on the same flight!
I can't stop thinking about how lucky I am to be safe on the ground! It was a terrifying experience to feel the plane in the turbulence then to feel touch down and just woosh back up again into the storm!!
Yes thanks to the pilot who successfully landed the plane after a really scary missed approach!

We were driving back from Graubünden this morning and while on the highway up past the Zürichsee, we got hit by a gust of wind that practically sent us off the road, the strongest gust I can recall feeling while driving. I can't imagine experiencing that in a plane...

It's awful in a plane. Happened to me years ago in a small plane flying to Lugano, ..the wind and the alps.. those mountains never looked so close !

Just got back myself after a very bumpy and windy landing. Quite a few people were getting stressed out but we got down in one piece so all was fine | | This user would like to thank Phil_MCR for this useful post:

Scary if you've never experienced one before, but totally routine for your pilots. As someone else said, this used to happen with regularity in Edinburgh. Rather than praying for a safe landing, you'd pray not to be diverted to another airport and bussed back.
I had this happen once on a 727, which is the plane equivalent of a muscle car. When the pilot applied full throttle, you were absolutely glued to your seat. An amazing bird. | | The following 4 users would like to thank Village Idiot for this useful post:

My scariest flight landing was in the US two years ago. Thank goodness my daughter was too young to understand what was going on but I was scared like hell. The plane was going up and down and from side to side with bad bumping. Lightning all around us, lots of drops of I don't know how many meters in short amount of time, everything was flying away in the plane, etc. | | The following 2 users would like to thank Nil for this useful post:
