| | | SBB - Do they offer a discount to OAP's
Visiting family, do the SBB offer discounts to old aged pensioners? It looks like they don't?
Any idea?

(Edited: wrong info, see below: No they don't.)
Poor pensioners get Erganzungsleistung to their AHV.

If you look at this as an economist, there's no point offering discount to customers who have less potential of repeat business in the future ..... | | The following 4 users would like to thank Assassin for this useful post: | |

The GA is heavily discounted for senior citizen. Which gives them the opportunity and joy of blocking complete IC trains during rush-hour... (note to all older user: If you organize a hiking trip with 50+ people and decide to all take an IC between Zurich and Berne before 9 am, why not tell the SBB beforehand? And please wait with the hiking songs till you are closer to the mountains...)

Only worse train ride I had in Switzerland was up Jungfraujoch with a massive group of Indians blasting Hindi music from some boombox.

Says OAP Busby.

It is quite difficult if you travel any distance at all to go hiking, biking, shopping, looking round art galleries or whatever, to avoid the 'rush-hours' at both ends of the day. And no-one, moaning about my being in 'their' train in the evening. is going to consider than I got up at the crack of dawn to get out of the ZVV area before 8 a.m. or having moaned about me in the morning is going to be grateful to me for waiting in the wilds until 7 p.m. to start my homeward journey. Of course, I could avoid weekdays altogether and do all my travelling on Saturday and Sunday, which would make me really popular.

I think seniors should be treated the same as bicycles and be banned during peak hours. And get their own lane at the supermarket check out where they can turn their coins over as long as they want to.

I'd just like to add that paying with a plastic card should also be banned at supermarket checkouts, it is in fact much quicker paying by cash as we OAPs do. Should a system of OAPs queues be introduced where we all pay in coins, then we'll be the first ones out of the shop - and strict controls will be needed otherwise all those card-waving youngsters will be trying to crash the rapidly moving queue.
