Road Status

I was wondering if there is some kind of service that tells you if a particular road is drivable?

I have ski lessons booked at Col de la Faucille tomorrow (near Gex) and I have no idea if setting off tomorrow is a fool's errand as I don't have a four wheel drive and I don't fancy spending 2 hours driving up a winding road to Narnia and then getting stuck and surviving on nothing more than Haribos and the 100th game of I Spy...

Re: Road Status

This is Switzerland - snow on roads in winter is normal - as is clearing it and making them passable.
It is in a ski resorts profitable interest to ensure clear access to it, is ensured.

Ever heard of TCS?

Re: Road Status

A set of chains should help extend the range of roads you can drive on. I've got a 4WD and a set of chains.

Mrshev,
Col de la Faucille is our local resort as we only live app 15km from there.
We have not yet tried driving up there (or down), where the road have not been cleared - even very early in the morning. For sure it can be slippery but no need for a 4x4 or chains so far (this winter and last winter).
As long as you have good winter tires, I would not be afraid of going there.

Good luck

Re: Road Status

Turned out to be fine. The roads were well gritted and ploughed. The car park was fun and games though...
