| | | Swiss Speeding Fine - Help
Hi
I rented a car from Hertz in Switzerland recently and was unfortunately caught by a camera doing a 100 on an 80km road. Got a speeding ticket for 180 CHF + Hertz charged 40 CHF to pass my name on. I live in the UK - could I avoid not paying the fine altogether.
What is the risk if I don't pay? Would I note be able to drive in Switzerland again? Could anything happen to me in UK/
Thanks
Dawood

Don't pay the fine, and wonder that every time your stopped (if ever) you come up on a computer for non-payment of fine.

...and of course never hire a car from Hertz again.
They will debit your credit card with their fee anyway - you will have signed to agree to this on the hire contract. It is possible that you don't pay the fine, but you will be on record here. See other threads on this...

I'm always amazed when people come on forums (not just this one) expecting advice on how best to ultimately break the law.... | | The following 6 users would like to thank Snoopy for this useful post: | |

Accept it, you broke the law and got caught .Your fine totals about £100. Whats the big deal? Pay up. You need to remember that fines in CH can always come back to haunt you......

The best thing you can do is pay up, after all you admit you broke the law. |

Thanks for all your replies.
To those who have given sermons on morality - yes I know the right thing is to pay the fine and not break the law. My question was what could happen if I don't pay it - it is a free choice I am entitled to make, whether wrong or right - I will suffer the consequences - hence the question related to consequences - but thanks for the advice in good faith anyway.

If you don't pay, they will record the offence, add interest over time and if you step one foot again in Switzerland, you will be stopped and ordered to pay. They will never forget so in 20 years time it will be still outstanding, but with interst added. Hint its not worth it!!

I'm sure others will correct me if this has changed or is wrong, but I understand that paying the fine in Switzerland will not affect your UK license...i.e., no points on your sheet. Best to pay up the relatively small fine and be done with it. If you don't pay and get caught in the future, who knows what can happen.

Dude, Im probably way late with this, havent been on the forum for months but someting I learned the hard way was that all European countries pass motoring offence info amongst each other and you will just get the UK authorities banging on your door for it, in time. Happend to me when I was speeding in Austria.
Sleep easy, pay up and look big.

FK | | | | | Maybe between EU countries but from Switzerland this won't happen - the UK police will supply the registered owner of a vehicle but have no mechanism in place to follow up on behalf of the Swiss authorities. The address will be supplied and then the SWiss authorities will send a nice letter and a bill.
