Re: Low cost flight companies in Switzerland?!?!

With Swiss, Zurich --> Milan CHF 192. IMO, that's a decent price to fly round trip with no hassles.

To get to Milano Centrale it is faster with the train and cheaper than flying.

I did a sample search in July (when most people have holiday), out and back on a Saturday, and the results were the following:

Easy Jet from Edinburgh to Geneva and back: GBP 244.98
It's a direct flight, but obviously then having to get the train in Geneva

British Airways Edinburgh-London-Zurich and back: GBP 199.80
Changing at Heathrow on the way out and at London-City (what a breeze!) on the way back.

So, the Easy Jet option is not necessarily the cheapest (or the most convenient).

The important thing (with any airline) is to plan well ahead to get the cheapest seats and be able to commit to a plan and stick to it. The cheapest fares can often not be changed, or if they can, will mean having to pay stiff penalties.

Thanks for the replies, I didn't think about the BA option seems quite reasonable and take it quite easy to do change at London?

Haha.

There's bloody tonnes that fly from Basel!

I always use EasyJet to pop over to Liverpool every so often, cheap as chips!

Make sure you fly through London City, not Gatwick or Heathrow.

Re: Low cost flight companies in Switzerland?!?!

No way, all these prices way too high.
With my GPL car I can do, Turin-Zurich with less than 45 CHF (about 400 Km)
And they charge over 90 CHF Zurich-Milan, just to go? -_- thief !

There must be a cheaper solution...

Fuel cost alone perhaps. Now factor in depreciation, insurance, servicing, tyres, autostrada tolls, parking.....

hitch-hike? Walk? Cycle? They could all be free.

Factor in the tunnel situation and the fact that you can have a beer on the train, I'd say it wins hands-down.

In fact I think you can almost get to London now with the train as fast as with a flight. And you get to swap Heathrow for something far nicer.

Heathrow is not great, but not impossible! London-City is a breeze.

If you want to check out fares from the UK, try this website. It has some pretty good fares, but does not list the low-cost airlines like Easyjet. It will list fares on airlines other than BA, such as Air France or KLM. Amsterdam is a pretty good airport for changing planes too. It's worth comparing these prices with prices on Easyjet's website because your mileage may vary on any given day.

Re: Low-cost airlines in Switzerland?

My preference coming to Zurich from London is City airport - much quicker than Heathrow, particularly if you're on the east of the city. That gives me Swiss or BA as choices. I use Swiss because experience travelling weekly over the last 4 months shows they are more often on time.
Touch virtual wood - I have never been cancelled.

Gatwick could be an option for me but it's plain nasty!
