The squawking this thing makes is horrible and can be annoying when on the phone, but it is by far the best option I .
Good luck with your two years of good behaviour then...

Perhaps a better option would be sticking to the speed limit eh.

Actually no speed all you like, then I'm assuming the "uhoh" will involve you being banned from driving. An altogether more satisfactory situation don't you think? Well if not for you, then for the rest of us.

So we now all know that there is radar, there is laser. There is fixed, there are mobile (more than expected especially in die pampa), plus the wonderful boys/girls in blue with or without devices.

I have experience in the last 9 years of all of these variants, and am now on a warning following an incident in Zurich (69KM in a 50 limit ). By the way there is something to think about, I got caught in ZH as said, this was in December then, last week (August) I have a nice letter from my home Kanton (AG) explaining that I have 2 years of being a good boy ahead of me, otherwise uhoh... plus I have to pay another 110- for this letter!

The best option until now is (as already suggested by somebody above)from http://amigo.radar.ch you buy a cheap and nasty looking GPS receiver, which contains a database of all of the fixed and, obviously only the fixed installations that they know about. This is updated monthly for a yearly subscription.

The squawking this thing makes is horrible and can be annoying when on the phone, but it is by far the best option I .

So why was I caught in ZH on a fixed installation??? No battery .

Anyway with the roadworks at the moment coming from AG to ZH there is no real danger of speeding.

Happy driving
Odd that, as most on AG plates drive at about 15KPH when in Zurich.

Doesn't your GPS plug in the fag lighter??

Erm yeah that would be me. I don't drive often and when I do it's in a car with AG plates. Still haven't really got the idea of driving on the right side of the road

Re: Who has a radar detector?

Thanks Slaphead, obviously you are right (and it is very sensible to it point out) I should not speed. I'll give it a try. "A moment's insight is sometimes worth a life's experience."

By the way AbFab, the Ciggy lighter does charge the squawker, but it was being used to power my blackberry at the time, otherwise I wouldn't be able to read and answer my emails whilst driving. Then where would I be?

Re: Who has a radar detector?

Having a bad keyboard and mixed language day today, "to it point out" should read "to point it out" sorry.

Do you really drive on the side of the road?

I find driving on the upper surface easier.

Re: Who has a radar detector?

an old thread i know. so gps speed camera detectors are illegal in switzerland. but almost all gps units can alert you to poi's. mine is a tomtom navigator in my phone. i changed the poi speedcam file to be called 'cows'. now every time im near a speedcam it shows an icon of a cow and goes 'moo' and i slow down to look for cows. is this illegal? will the cops search through my phone and figure out my poi's of cows are really speed cam poi's? the benefit of switzerland is that there almost could be cows near many of these things...

Re: Who has a radar detector?

I got a new SatNav this week. It also includes the speed camera detector. It mentions that this must be disabled in Switzerland, and some other countries.

Re: Who has a radar detector?

The BEST radar detector is the Valentine One. http://www.valentine1.com/

I used it in Canada and the US

It rocks. Haven't used it here yet, since I have the GPS.
