It's a bugger of a drive though, through the mess that is Basel.
Digressing somewhat, we've decided to pull onto the A861 towards Lörrach and rejoin France further up. Far smoother.

EvilShell could be the best person for advice on how to avoid the Basel Building Site...

digressing indeed. Only a madman would choose to use the main French crossing in Basel today, now. Ow!

This thread has been split from http://www.englishforum.ch/daily-lif...ming-beef.html
Reason: I think the two main border crossings at Basel do deserve their own thread....

Re: Crossing the border in Basel

How many years has this building site at Basel crossing been going on?, as long as ive been here 7 years, this summer I must admit it was not any better, god knows what a truck driver must think.

Re: Crossing the border in Basel

In the 7 years I've been here I've not seen any change in the Basel crossing.

What I do is use the German crossing (still pretty bad but not the joke that the Basel one is) then get off at the Weil am Rhein/Huningen turnoff (1st after the Zoll) then follow St Louis which takes you to the A36.

Coming back take St Louis/Huningen (takeoff after Weil Am Rhein)
