You've gone from a old mans, boring colour Merc to a souped up boring colour boy racer A6. Good luck in whatever you choose.

Just consider/research the repair, maintenance cost of these type of cars before taking the plunge.

http://www.vd.ch/themes/mobilite/aut...de-lt-3500-kg/

So, if a diesel car was equipped with DPF filter and registered until 2013, then there is a 50% tax break, that would amount to about CHF300-400 per year.

Audi A6 this time.
Personally I wouldn't consider anything with aftermarket/flashy wheels.
That said the KM's are low, if it's close enough, could be worth a look.

Oh I just noticed, it's Aarau, so I wouldn't bother.

Re: Opinion on the car(s)

explain why you've groaned this post?

That's a reasonable suggestion and looks reasonably tidy. It's a 1-year-car and I'm certain I'll go for something like that when I get rid of my 2nd car next year.

Oh and I'm out.

Reasonable??? It has 4.2L engine, it is 1999 and still it cost 5.5k - what is reasonable in this offer? I need car for years, not for one and then start fighting again...

1) Mercs are well built and the reliability that plagued the early models will now have been fixed
2) That engine is a low stress unit - and will be happy shifting up early. It will make it reasonable for cruising
3) Very comfortable
4) A lot of car for the money
5) For a year or 2 it would be an interesting chariot

In Switzerland a fresh MFK ramps up the price - and for cars older than 10 years it should give you minimal running costs until it comes round again.

If you want a cheap to run car - pony up 20k - as there is some seriously good stuff available from around 2008-2010 which falls into this bracket

Sorry to bring it to you - but you keep on asking us about run down upper middle class cars with high mileage and low price tags. NONE of these is likely to be a carefree car for years. You need to get real...

That is true to some degree as there are brands that are more raliable and there are those less reliable. I'm researching to find the optimal solution between running costs, tax and possible repairs. I'm not forcing anyone to give me and answer - I only ask those who can give me useful tips. That is really all to it. I'm perfectly aware that cars can make problems - I bought my current car while it was 6 yrs old, had 95k miles on the clock and was fresh after NCT (MKF) costed me 6k euro. It was very good choice as the car was virtually problem-free. So I would like to make similar choice now

20k after a year or two becomes 12k right? While 10k after a year or two becomes 6-7k - less depreciation although more possible maintenance costs. I have to find the sweet spot - that is all I need from you guys
