Speeding Ticket

So I was driving on the highway, just past Bellinzona. There is a speed camera in a 80km/h zone. I was driving along that stretch and saw I red light. I know the speed camera got me. When I looked down, my speedometer said 108, but I had already slowed down a bit probably. I have heard that the speeding fines are hefty here.

I'm guessing they got me going close to 40km over the speed limit (I am hoping not). What will happen?

It was on the highway, in a non-built up area. How much do you think the fine will be? Will I lose my licence? How long will it take for the ticket to be issued? It's all I can think about.

Anyone else get hit doing 30/40km over the speed limit on the highway?

Its funny that you know there's a camera and you saw red light but still drove way over the speed limit??

I may be wrong but anything above 25 kmph over the limit will be a huge find possibly combined with a driving ban in autoroute.

Some get a ticket within two weeks and some take longer.

Hope for the best.

Re: Speeding Ticket

if its really 40 km/h net more without the tolerance of 6kmh you might look into a fee that can come big: 10-20% of your years gross salary.
if its 34kmh it can reach 2500 as a fine plus paperwork of another 900-1500 chf, so easy 4000-5000 chf.

Re: Speeding Ticket

If you get a half-tax Abo from your local station, you'll save 50% on all your forthcoming railway trips. Some winter resorts also accept them for cable car rides too.

Re: Speeding Ticket

Well don't forget that your speedo will over-read, so 110kph indicated is probably only just over 100kph genuine. So you may get away without it going to court and just get a ~200chf fine (you should be able to find the calculations somewhere).

But if you were just slightly over the threshold then you can probably expect a total fine of over a thousand and possibly a ban, although if it's the first time you may not lose your licence. A second such offence within three years would most certainly mean a suspension, probably of 3 months, but first offences which are not massively high are often dealt with by the fine+admin charges only.

That's wrong both grammatically and factually.

They would need to be travelling significantly faster than 120 for 20% of the yearly salary...

Depends how you interpret "highway". Where I come from in the Midwest, that would mean "landestrasse" here and Flow isn't too far off. If, as I suspect, he was referring to the Autobahnn, then you're right.

If he means the camera I think he means (A13 north of Bellinzona) it is indeed Autobahn and based on the OP (and assuming normal speedo inaccuracy) would be about CHF 800.

Re: Speeding Ticket

If this is any help - our company car (I was not driving it) got flashed in GR, speedo was claimed to be around 100 in 80 zone, camera recorded 96, 5 for tolerance i.e. 91 in 80 zone resulted in CHF 120 fine and request to declare the driver of the car.

That section is NOT Autobahn but rather Autostrasse, it's 80 kph. and is just over the cantonal border in Grigioni.

Re: Speeding Ticket

I've been got by a camera along there, 108 was my speed too. No, not the fixed on, they have a stealth one they use sometimes (I was going the other way). Your speedo will overread, they round down and I suspect you'll come out OK.

Why worry? Wait for the grey envelope then see.
