Questions related to car lease transfer / registration

Hi,

I have a couple of questions related to a car lease transfer and registration. I am in the process of taking over a lease on a car and based on other posts in the forum have a general idea of the process. The questions I have are with regards to registration after the lease transfer.

The original leasee of the car and I live in different Kantons. To re-register the car, what is the most efficient and "cheapest" process? From what I understand, the options are:

a. getting a temporary registration in the Kanton of the original Leasee. I understand this can be expensive.
b. cancel registration in the original kanton, re-register in the new Kanton and then go back with the plates and drive the car.
c. take the original registration papers to the new Kanton and they will re-register it and notify the original Kanton to cancel (not sure if this is a correct process).

Which of the above process is allowed? Any comments?

Thanks,
KO

Re: Questions related to car lease transfer / registration

Firstly, have you seen the grey card? Is something printed on the left hand side? Sometimes lease cars have a code printed there which prevents transfer of ownership.

Is the seller keeping the plates?

You need to get the VIN (ideally get a copy of the grey card) and get insurance. You can then get plates in ZH and a new grey card.

At that time you can take the other plates off the car and put yours on and drive.

Is a garage involved in this transfer?
