Different ticket options for a daily office commuter in Zurich public transport

I am looking for ticket option available in Zurich public transport which is also allows breaks in between so that I do not end up paying for the weeks when I am out of city. It should not cost substantially more than the monthly zone pass.

Maybe a little more information about how many days you actually use in the month etc will help. If the use is limited you could go in for the 6 pack tickets, the saving is small but adds up. I believe they are valid for 6 months. If you know that you are going to be away for a few weeks don't buy the monthly pass for that period. Again a bit more detail of usage requirement will help get more ideas.

Here http://www.zvv.ch/en/tickets/tickets...ces/index.html you can compare all the options.

There are no week-cards, which I've always thought was a pity.
So the steps are: day-cards bought individually, day-cards bought in a multipack as explained above, then the next jump is a month-card, then a year-card.

I guess it depends how long you're going to be living here and doing this commute. In some cases, a year-card is so very much cheaper than 12x a month-card, that being away for a few weeks, now and again, still makes it worth it.
