UK Driving License to UK - Card/Paper?

Hi all,

I'm changing my UK driving license over to Swiss. I've done the eye test, forms etc.

Just one question - I need to send me UK License - can I just send the card part or do I also need to send the paper copy? (I have both)

Thank you!

Pretty sure they wouldn't bother about the paper part. I know I didn't give them mine when I switched, but that was some time ago now.

In any case, the reason you send/hand it in is so that they can send it to DVLA for cancellation and to ensure you don't try to use it, so the paper part on its own is not of any concern.

When I changed mine, they said they didn't need the counterpart. Then I got a letter from them (after they had sent the card back to the DVLA) saying they also needed the counterpart …. better to just send it all in at once. They are doing away with the the counterpart anyway.

I never gave the counterpart either.

I think the Swiss just kept my UK license because my parents got a letter from the DVLA saying I need to renew my UK license as it has expired

If you have both easily available, then submit both. My OH just went to the Regensdorf Strassenverkehrsamt last week and the guy who received his application document queried what the paper was for! Apparently at the Regensdorf office, they (or maybe that one particular person) has never been given the paper part as part of an application for converting a GB driving license

Thanks. I will send both.

On my counterpart I have a a speeding ticket from 2010 on it - I never asked for it to be removed after the 4 year mandatory time. Does this have any added implications here?

Nope. I doubt they'll even know what it is but it's over four years old in any case so won't be an issue.
