Register car in Switzerland as EU-citizen

Hello,

I am moving to my girlfriend in Zurich next month, I am still an EU-citizen (Slovenian passport). I will add her address as my temporary address in Switzerland, and try to find a job. I have car, which I would like to take with me, but I presume it would be better to register it in Switzerland than to drive it on Slovenian license plates in Switzerland for longer period..

Does anyone know if that is possible and if yes, what exactly would be the requirements for me to do so.

Thank you,

Mark

Re: Register car in Switzerland as EU-citizen

You got a year before you have to change your plates.
I believe it starts from when you registered. Not when the car came in.

Scroll down the page and find similar situations.

Re: Register car in Switzerland as EU-citizen

In case that I would sell my car at home and buy a car in Switzerland, would I be able to register it with my Slovenian passport and Swiss temporary stay address?

No. You must have a Swiss resident permit before you can register/own a Swiss car. Just bring your car and drive on Slovenian plates to start with.

It starts from the date stamped on the import form when you bring the car into the country. If he is coming here to live he will have to do the official paperwork for everything.
If he is just coming here as a tourist he can drive it around in Switzerland on his Slovenian plates for limited period until he either goes home with it or he becomes resident in which case he will need to do the import paperwork.

But make sure that it is properly insured for driving outside Slovenia for a prolonged period of time.
