Selling a motorcycle after leaving Switzerland

Hi Folks!

I have a motorcycle Honda CBF 600 since April 2014. I plan to deregister it from Strassenverkehrsamt, park at my friend's place and sell it for upcoming season. For this I am gonna post an ads somewhere on web. I am leaving Switzerland permanently next week (heading to USA) so I will not be here but a friend of mine will take care if someone is interested and wants to see a motorcycle.

I need your advice, is it possible to sell it when the owner is not here? Actually a friend of mine will keep a necessary documents regarding a motorcycle. Also he will forward me any formal papers via mail if my signature is needed.

Thanks

Re: Selling a motorcycle after leaving Switzerland

Yes, no problem.

There is nothing for the owner to do or sign.

Unless your friend doesn't send you the money.

Yup I did it for my friend with a car.
as long as they have the grey card (not sure if motorcycle it is called the same) you are good to go. I made sure I dropped of the plates to ensure everything on my end was done (insurance, tax, etc....)

Re: Selling a motorcycle after leaving Switzerland

I would imagine that a prospective buyer would want to to test ride, before buying, so surrendering plates before selling may be a problem - although, I see enough unplated vehicles driving/riding around.

Obviously, with a bike, security is a concern for a test ride. You will have to find a way, with your friend, how to safeguard against someone just riding off with it.

Re: Selling a motorcycle after leaving Switzerland

I bought a motorcycle from a person that had already left Switzerland. All the documents were with her friend and plates were surrendered. We did a quick test ride (it was Yamaha YBR125 - my first motorcycle) so not much to test. I transfer the money, got the documents, registered and started riding. Very easy. No signature from previous owner needed.

How much do you want for it out of interest? CBF600 was my first bike after I passed a the test back in the day on a CG125. It was restricted but was still a lot of fun!

I prefer the more sporty Hornet to the CBF but still curious.

here are some details:
2005 CBF 600N (naked) with ABS, 43000 km
inc. windshield, handlebar heater, sw-motech crashbars

This was my first bike. Bought it from the Honda dealer last April. Very easy to ride, very forgiving. A great commuting bike but not for fun. I am thinking to move to Honda Hornet 600.

I can offer it now for 2500 euro. Actually I would like to wait for a season.

P.S. I am asking in euros because I am thinking to buy Hornet from Italy.
