Someone dented my car

My car was parked outside home and a kind soul reared into it messed the door. So I called police made a report. Unfortunately I don't have parking insurance so I was redirected to the National Guarantee fund where I have to pay 1k from my pocket.

My question is, the lady directed me a garage in zürich to make a report about the damage. I am reading all I can to avoid being Switzerlanded, is there anything I should be aware? I don't have a preferred garage so I am planing to fix it on the garage they sent me.

Anyone with experience?

Thanks

Check the details of the fund - if it stipulates a 1000chf excess that is what you will have to pay. If the damage is under 1000chf you might want to pay yourself.

You have been unlucky - and I also hate hit and run drivers - but unfortunately they exist - which is why insurance is worth paying for. Sorry.

Re: Someone dented my car

I expected the fix to be around 800 but went to some places and was quoted 1.800chf.

I tried to get parking damage insurance and they said only if I get vollkasko which was like 2.5k a year since I am not Swiss and it seems my country of origin is high profile. The parking damage insurance without vollkasko was for new cars only with max 3 years old.

I was reading the website http://www.nbi.ch/ and it seems there are some administration fees around 400chf for claims. Tomorrow I will go in a garage in Zürich Hope they quote me around 1,000 and I can avoid the hassle with Insurance but since the quote of 1,800 was from a "Budget" garage I think the one they sent me to make the damage report will prob be way more expensive.

I am really mad, and I am kinda hunting cars with indication of a bump. My place is kinda quite and there shouldn't be too many cars that fit the crash

Re: Someone dented my car

Just an update on how the General Insurance for Hint & Run works.

If someone bumped into your car , hit & run and you dont have the Vollkasko or parking damage insurance you can make a claim to the national Guarantee Fund http://www.nbi.ch/ before you send your car to repair you have to take it to a garage in Zürich it was in Badenerstr 396 they look at it and asses the damage. In my case it was 2k. You have to pay 1k from your own pocket and they will deposit in your account 1k.

With that you can look for a garage and decide if you want to do full job or just some minor repairs.

And as a victim of hit & run I ask everyone if you have seen one just call the police and give whatever details you have seen.

I am kinda paranoid now. I guess that is the price in living near a retirement home

I live in Basel. Do I still have to take it to a Zürich garage?

Of course, can you even buy a car in Basel? I thought they were still horses and cobbled streets...
