deregistering car in ZH moving to AG

Does anyone know what the best process is for moving my car from ZH to AG.

Do I go to STVA in AG first and then cancel in ZH or do I get the grey form voided in ZH first and then take it to AG?

I think you need to do it in Aargau.

For info here (in german):

Re: deregistering car in ZH moving to AG

This is what we had to do to move cars from AG to ZG
  • Once you are deregistered in Aargau and registered in Zug please call your insurance company and let them know that you moved from Aargau to Zug. Once you have received your de-reg certificate from Aargau please register in Zug with immediate effect. (if you need help please let me know) The limit for arrivals in Zug is 14 days (They will turn a blind eye if you are a couple of days over, but please do not leave this too long.
  • Ask your insurance company to order an insurance confirmation for you. They will do this and electronically send to Zug Strassenverkehrsamt.
  • Once this is sent you may go to counter of the Strassenverkehrsamt in Steinhausen (address and opening times below) and present the Car registration documents and AG numberplates.
  • Zug will take these and give you ZG plate and send back the AG ones.

Re: deregistering car in ZH moving to AG

What I did was the contrary, AG to ZH

so basically it should be like this, ZH to AG
- You contact to your insurance, tell them your effective day.
- Then next move is you have to register yourself in AG first (a proof of you living in AG, gemeinde bestätigung)
- Go to STVA with this bestätigung, your car ausweis and your ZH plates. if STVA sees all clear and insurance is valid (thru their system) you will get a plate instantly.
- Dont forget to deposit your ZH plates in the boxes at the entrance. You just throw into the collection box, no procedure.

Tipp: There is a tax difference and insurance cost difference between these two Kantons. Therefore be ready to receive some additional tax on the car and probably fund back on insurance maybe.

Don't forget to change the address on your driving license at the same time you pick up your new plates.

Re: deregistering car in ZH moving to AG

Don't you need as well to take a registration form that you can supposedly download from their website?

Re: deregistering car in ZH moving to AG

no forms necessary.

Grey card, plates, insurance and permit. It's not complicated.
