SBB GA Card and Half Fare Card

I was at the SBB counter today asking in regards to fare cards and the person at the desk recommended that I get a 1 month GA card AND a 1 year half fare card. Based on what I read the half fare card is not required if I continuously get montly GA cards. Is this correct. Does having a Half Fare card reduce the price of the GA card month to month?

Any input would be appreaciated.

You read right. They are wrong. This combination is useless, expect we are speaking about the new After 7 GA, or about the German BahnCard 50.

Re: SBB GA Card and Half Fare Card

Getting rolling monthly GAs is expensive. The "Monatskarte zum Halbtax" is 410 CHF, while a regular GA is 3655(/12) - 305 CHF.
If you just want one month, and don't want to commit to four months GA (minimum term), then the month's card is fine - but add the 175 onto that for the yearly half fare and it adds up.

Still, if you travel a lot it could quickly pay off.

The GA itself is independent of the half fare card; the one month card needs it.

thanks.. that info is good to know for sure... i'm currently only here for 6 months so i dont want to necessarily commit to the yearly GA... i'll go with this option the first month and see if something cheaper (point to point pass) is a better option for me next month
