Cable ties on CV joint Gaiters for MFK

Some used driveshafts arrived from Germany (ebay), with cable ties on the CV joint seals/rubbers. Is this acceptable in Switzerland, or must metal clamps be used. It looks like these have been working OK. Just wondering.

my gut would say no, I wouldn't risk it for the sake of a proper one that costs a couple of chf

Re: Cable ties on CV joint Gaiters for MFK

I would agree normally. The Lupo 3L has a magnesium oil sump, and the inner joint clearance is so tight that a normal clip won't fit easily. So it means ordering a special clip, waiting a few days, and getting the special tool to fit the clip, which isn't the normal crimp type...

a cable tie will always have a gap though, the slightest sign of grease leaking out and you'll fail
