That is on my todo list, I had the ford v6 S2, only 170 bhp but straight through exhausts and of course no cat, I never needed to tell my wife I was on the way home, she could hear the car from a mile away. TVR's interiors are so special car tried to kill me a couple of times, 1st gear off a roundabout in the wet was a very bad idea. no driver aids, no safety, loved it
The wife puts her fingers in her ears if she is in the garage when I start the car

The one that has the left biggest impression would be jollying in my uncles old P1800 when I was a lad.
Another Jensen built car gets No 1 then.

David Beckham's TVR Cerbera 4.5 Lightweight was on ebay a while back. The TVR LW's had especially amazing factory original interiors. The Cerbie is on my todo list. Much better brakes than the standard early Griff too.

granted, the one I had was a Beck replica but still the most fun I have ever had behind the wheel of an automobile. 110hp, dual Weber carbs and just under 1450 pounds with me sitting in it.

I think this and 911 counts as votes for the VW Beetle. I might have nominated the Beetle but I have never driven one, though my parents had many, and one is on my todo list.

Re: What is the best car you have ever driven?

just to be clear, best car <> most expensive

almost without exception the most expensive cars I've driven have been total disappointments / useless for normal driving anywhere but on a track, and one was not even very good at the task it was specifically made for (yes full rally spec escort cossie I'm looking at you)

Alfetta GT 1976 ... double Weber carburetor, rear gearbox. Fast, thirsty, well balanced. Awful electricals, italian craftsmanship . Still, great memories.

Ah my speedy T5R. Still find it so beautifull. Had to change the engine twice, that fifth cylinder never got enough oil. From time to times I see one of theme here.
*and with folded rear sits I had very useful, 1.8 meter long platform

Manual T5R Estate in yellow will be worth north of 20k now over here

You get the odd black/green/red R come up - and you'll get the odd black T5R - often saloon - but pretty much all are automatic - IE down 15ps.

Re: What is the best car you have ever driven?

This isn't exotic, but late 1980s / early 1990s, Ford had an XR4X4 Sierra (not the XR4i silly tail fin / spoiler thing) which absolutely nailed handling and power whilst looking fairly tame from the outside.

It was in the company's fleet at the time when I had a Scorpio 4x4, which was OK, but too big to throw around in tight turns, so I'd "borrow" the XR4X4 when jaunting around the Schwarzwald.

Just goes to show how far things have moved on - the XR4*4 had a measly 150PS from either the 2.8 or later 2.9 engines. It was only when COSWORTH built a 24V DOHC head for the Scorpio 24V did power start getting serious.

I remember my dad having a 24V on loan from work - and how much quicker it felt than "our" already brisk Senator (2.5 - 140PS of mayhem)!

Re: What is the best car you have ever driven?

First car I ever crashed was a Sierra, wrapped it round a lamp post 5 days after passing my test (yes I was being a total cockend) had to drive a banana shaped Sierra home and explain to my dad what I'd done to his car.

Re: What is the best car you have ever driven?

My Fiat panda was the best i ever had, 2 wheel drive, went anywhere, no need to lock it as nobody would ever dream of nicking it, no worries about parking damages etc, handful of bamboo shoots each week and off we went.

Now i got a 600BHP Merc and a DB9, both far more worrisome and expensive ! (more fun too though !)

Re: What is the best car you have ever driven?

Bought one of those from Leeds car auction for 2100 in black, back in the day. I used to thrash the hell out of it. You could chuck it into a roundabout, and balance it on the throttle so easily. Very forgiving. In the end it was written off while parked 2 years later. I was offered 1900 from the culprit's insurance, but the AA valued my car at 2300 to replace, so I got the car for 150 and still more back than I paid. Straightened out the rear end by chaining it to a lamp post and booting it, plus sledge hammer. 15 quid for a 1.6L tailgate, 3 quid for gloss black paint from Halfords, sorted the rear lid. Left the 1983 style 1.6 badges on and it was my first Q car. A Sierra Cossie took me on going up to a tight corner, so I kept it floored, well over revved it powering in and wanting the engine braking, did the usual on the bend. The embarrassment on his girlfriends face! He had to wait until the next straight. Think I bent a pushrod doing that. Never sounded as sweet after. The lifters wore out too, common on the V6.
