Car import from USA

Hello everyone,
we are debating about bringing one of our used cars from San Francisco to Zurich this summer.
Did anyone just ship one car? (Not in a container with all your furniture). If so, about how much did that cost?
Any moving company that you recommend?
We are not sure if we bring our furniture or not. - We are just trying to get some ideas here.

Thanks, Karin

We didn't bring ours so I can't provide any specific feedback. However these threads may contain some personal stories that will help you out:

Re: Car import from USA

We shipped our truck separately from the container. We were quoted $1200. Apparently that only got it to Rotterdam. It was an extra 1000 euros to get it Switzerland. Then 1700chf to make it street legal for Switzerland. (Lights are different here).

Re: Car import from USA

Is the car interesting? American? If it is, then it may be worth shipping.

Re: Car import from USA

Mine is in the container on the boat over here. I got an amazing deal and loaded all my stuff IN the truck.

She was shipped on December 7th from LA and reached Italy today March 31st.....and now still has to make it to Antwerp.....I am really over it after 4 months. Thanks to the strikes in LA HArbor and then backlogged caused her to sit in Panama for a while

Mine is an old beater truck 1999 tahoe that i'll run for a few months/years and then sell along.

Re: Car import from USA

I shipped my car in 2011 with Schumacher Shipping (sp?). I included a detailed thread on this on the forum. It was a BMW 335d and it was relatively easy getting it registered in Zurich. I will search for the original post and include it here.

Mr. Bourne

Here it is:
