I'm selling my car this weekend and I wanted some advice on the process please. I have a private buyer and we agreed that he would collect the car this Monday (which is a public holiday). From other threads I see I need to remove the plates and give him the registration document (grey card). Then I return the plates to the authorities and cancel the insurance.
My question is do I need to have the grey card cancelled prior to handing it over? It seems that I can either
A) Cancel the grey card and return the plates in advance of the handover.
B) Give the uncancelled card to the new owner and remove the plates at the time of handover, then return these to the authorities later.
Is this corect? I'm out of CH until Friday night and have agreed the buyer can collect the car this Monday which means I can't cancel the grey card or return the plates in advance. I wanted to check I'm ok to give him the uncancelled grey card and simply return the plates on Tuesday. Any advice would be very welcome please.
