Possible french air traffic control strike 8/9 April.

Have not seen this advertised so if anyone has a flight tomorrow or day after its worth checking in a few hours if it's still going ahead.

Re: Possible french air traffic control strike 8/9 April.

Here it is on Easyjet's website

http://support.easyjet.com/case-3970

Have also seen it on UK news websites

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ses-chaos.html

I think as long as you are not travelling to and from France it is OK.

Last time the Frensh air trafic controllers went on strike (not that long ago that is... ) my plane from Brussels to Geneva deviated via Germany and the flight took abt 20 minutes longer.

The EasyJet support link is useless and gives not detail at all. And the GVA phone line makes you go through all the options then tell you to look on the website on a loop! Flipping useless!

Re: Possible french air traffic control strike 8/9 April.

Got to the airport for last night's ej to gatwick and on arriving at the gate saw it was delayed. Then it went to 'next info at 21:50' and the gate staff promptly vanished into thin air and didn't return.
Suspecting a cancelation, I (and others) went on the app & website to find that the flight was listed as cancelled already, but no info as such at the gate & no option to re book on the ej site. It was almost an hour later that it was officially cancelled at the airport.
I'd already begun to leg it by then, but as I left, there was a gate full of passengers and still no staff or official info.

It was another hour before the website offered the re book or refund option. and of course by then, all flights were full until Friday evening. Going back Saturday morning now.

I know the French ATC action is not ej's fault, but the lack of info and the running away of gate staff is pretty rubbish.
They obviously knew it was cancelled hours before they announced it, as the 18:15 obviously didn't leave Gatwick, and I don't really understand why they kept it quiet for so long (the cynic in me suspects something to do with that 3 hr delay/compensation thing).
I'm lucky and just went 20 mins home, but there were loads of bewildered looking passengers - old folk, families with young 'un's etc - who probably had a really shitty night being suddenly stranded at the airport at 10pm.

Easyjet is pretty good at avoiding complaints. I guess their attitude is, the flight was cheap, the risk is yours.

Sadly other airlines have begun to emulate that. I was booked on a Swiss flight that was cancelled in December. They didn't send a text message until about 3 hours previously, telling me that I was re-booked on an earlier flight and that this flight was from London City rather than Heathrow. As I was staying with family who live quite near to Heathrow, this implied a cross London dash and me arriving only just in time to board. When I asked about compensation they produced some bs about it not being their fault the flight was cancelled. I sent several follow up emails and they told me that my flight was cancelled due to strong winds. I checked that up and sent them weather reports proving that was not the case and they said it was due to operational reasons.

So maybe a small compensation, but Easyjet isn't the only crap airline out there.

Re: Possible french air traffic control strike 8/9 April.

Well OH got on his flight with under 1 hr delay. We've flown with EJ 100s of times, and we have never had any issues, apart from 1 very rude Swiss airhostess whom I reported. None of what happened today is anything to do with them, and yes the helpline and fligth tracker were pretty useless, but unusual circumstances. I remember the days when you had to be very rich to fly anywhere, and the only way to come and visit my parents with very young children I had to take the train on my own, change x amount of times, walk to ferry from station, etc, in the days when you had to take loads of terry nappies, etc.... EasyJet is great.
