Importing car from NL to CH - urgent question.

Hi all,

Has anybody been through importing a car into Switzerland recently. My husband is going to drive today or tomorrow to Switzerland with a car we just bought. According to ezv.admin.ch we need:
- Invoice or contract of sale
- Vehicle registration document/certificate
- Proof of identity (passport, identity card, etc.)
- Import customs declaration Einfuhrzollanmeldung (e-dec Anmeldung) https://e-dec-web.ezv.admin.ch/webde...tml?cid=455652

We have all of the above except the last one (Einfuhrzollanmeldung) which we are not sure about. There is an e-declaration form available but only in German and quite complicated asking for many different numbers an values etc. Does anybody know if we need to fill that in prior to the visit to the customs or can that be done at the boarder????
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Alicja

You can complete the declaration at the border (open during "office" hours)

OR you can temporarily import the car and finish importing it when you move here, then it will be tax free,

Hi Thank you, but we live here already for more than a year. Just bought a used car in the Netherlands and want to import it now.

just stop at the border and declare it. you will be driving the car with his own number plates and you will need insurance.

Won´t you have to pay tax on it? I thought that importing a car was not to be taxed only if you had the car already more than 6 months before you moved to Switzerland?

I`m quite sure there is some good advice here on the forum already.

VAT 8%, duty 4%.

Payable at the border.

Cash.

indeed there are Swiss import and VAT taxes to be paid.

If the car was registered after October 2006 in the Netherlands you may recoupe the special tax called BPM from the Dutch taxman. The tax is depreciated in 10 years so may be worth it

Re: Importing car from NL to CH - urgent question.

4% import and 8% VAT plus administration cost so rather 12 to 14% in total. OP can recoup the 21% VAT paid in Netherlands of course

loads of threats on this here
