| | | Speeding Tickets
My wife has received two speeding tickets from Geneve, It was her car but being driven by our Ex Au-pair, who has now returned home to Australia.
One is dated 28 MAY 06, the other 02 NOV 2005.
Question? Is there a time limit for sending out offence tickets? (How many more may we/she have coming?)
Under swiss law are we liable for her tickets?
The car is registered in France, Has a new agreement been put in place between the two countries to swap information since both were sent to our home address.
If anyone can help with this I would feel better prepared to go and try and sort it out!
Thanks Harry. |

as registered owner you are of course liable. There are agreements between Swizterland and the neighbouring countries for speeding tickets.
I'd send the thing back with the au-pair's Aussie name and address... |

Do as suggested, include and explanatory letter or even the police office where you need to send it and explain. Hope you have the Au Pairs Address details though.
My Brother in Law from the UK did the same to me earlier this year. No problem if you can give the offenders Name and Address, they will just re-issue the ticket to that address.
She wont get back into CH without paying it.

given the nature of checks at the airport, you'd have to be unlucky to get something more than the standard look at the passport.
It is, after all, simply a Pay And Go Faster tax |

If you have unpaid fines and go to stay in a hotel the police will come to find you. Those little slips that you fill in when you register are collected by the police and checked, if you have anything outstanding then they come looking for you. Happened to a guy visiting a friend when I lived in Neuchatel, the police came into a nightlub to arrest him. His unpaid fines were all related to driving.

Thank you for the replies, clearly since she failed to pay for her ski hire last season I am going to end up picking up this tab as well! In England where points are involved the police have to send the ticket within three weeks. Is there no limit here?
Border security on the road is lax, At Bardonnex they are only checking the vignette so as to raise money! At the airport securityis finally getting better and they read some of the passports!
Cheers Harry

Welcome to the club, I've been fined 6 times in one year in Zürich....don't even THINK about parking one second more than the alloted time in the blue zones, don't even THINK about rushing an orange light, don't even THINK about driving too fast. I'm starting to think it's the Swiss police's job to make money for the state...nothing better to do I guess. |

How about keeping to the speed limit? It works for me |

I got flashed in Lille on the way over from Dover last Sat.
No ticket arrived yet, but I might drive back avoiding France if you get my drift.
Trouble was I was driving and watching the road not the limits as it was a unfamiliar road to me.
My bad though, I'll pay the fine and move on! |

in the city? This is my second driving day in Zurich and I already got flashed. If I am driving a rental car and am here for a couple of months on a US licence, how do I get the ticket? where do they send it?

Either way you'll get it sooner or later.

Welcome to Switzerland.

Welcome to Switzerland. | | | | | This totally sucks, considering the speed limit wasn't posted. So the rental company will charge me a 100US to just give my address? What if the address on my US licence is not current? Should I correct it when I return the car?
So, from what you are saying, I am looking at about 140 CHF or more?
I am driving like a snail from now on.
thanks guys.
