Motorcycle license A1

Dear all,

Last year I have finished the mandatory 12 hours course for A license. However, I have now decided that I want to switch to a scooter and I will only need the A1 license. I have heard somewhere that after doing the training course you can request for the A1 license without taking any exams. Is this really the case? If so how I can request the A1 license?

Thank you.

Re: Motorcycle license A1

Then just take that and the course certificate to the Motor Vehicles, and they will add the A1.

For future reference: http://www.motorradausweis.ch/easymoto.cfm

State your age + current licence(s) and it will show you which license(s) you already have and which you can acquire.

keksli,

thanks for the link, its really helpful.

Another thing that I heard from my collegue is that an A1 license can be converted to a full A license after 2 years without taking any exams. Is that really the case?

cheers.

Not with A1. You must have an A (limited) license and after two years, you get the A (unlimited) license.

Re: Motorcycle license A1

thanks keksli,

last question - to get the A(limited) you need to do the practical exam also? or can I apply for it same as for A1, i.e. without taking any practical exams?

Re: Motorcycle license A1

You would need to do the practical exam on a motorbike not exceeding 25kw nor which has more than 0.16kw/kg for the A limited licence and up to 11KW for the A1 (which you can get on the B permit + 2*4hour(?) courses).

Source: http://www.ocn.ch/ocn/fr/pub/prestat...categories.htm (and thus applicable in Canton of Fribourg but I imagine it's similar all over).

Re: Motorcycle license A1

Just following on from this. I have a B license and want to get an A1 license. I am aware I need to do the 8hours grundkurs and then will be able to get the lciesne added without a practical test.
I am wondering, once I do the 8hrs and get the A1 license added....can I drive outside of Switzerland immediately?

Re: Motorcycle license A1

No you need to amend the current licence at the STVA. Once they issue the updated one (including the A1 entry) then you can go and enjoy yourself.

Shouldn't take too long so just pop over at the STVA. You can probably do it also by post.

Call them and ask for time-frames

Re: Motorcycle license A1

Sorry yeah, I meant once I have the A1 added to my license. So as soon as I do the grundkurs I can ride into France etc. as well as removing my L plate?

Whereas if I go for the A restricted, (I'm under 25), I believe I would need to wait until doing the 12hours grundkurs and passing my practical test before I can remove my L plate and drive into other countries.

Am I right?
