Mobility vs. Renting - opinions?

Hey all,

I'm thinking of joining Mobility - seems a very good price at 40CHF for the trial membership with a migros card.

I need to move some furniture to a new apartment and this is the main reason - I will need a van / big car for only 1 - 2 hours. I would then use it for shopping, etc. occasionally and when I fancy going for a spin.

My other option is to simply hire a van. I imagine this will be 100CHF+.

Does anyone have an opinion on Mobility - good service, any potential problems, etc.?

Cheers!

Regular mobility user here. Good service, good price. If you only need it for short time and short distances, it is the way to go.

We used it a few times over the years, on the odd occasion that there as a problem (fuel card not working) we gave mobility the receipt and they paid it without a problem. Never had a problem, highly recommended.

If you're only going to use it a few times a year, then Mobility Click and Drive may be a better option. A higher hourly rate (but no KM rate) and minimum three hour rentals, but no membership fee.

You really must do the sums, before you hire! After a 4 hour hire and 100Kms, I found Mobility expensive. BUT it is cheap if you take the train and then hire...

As I wrote, you need to calculate the trip for yourself.

Thanks everyone.

I joined for 4 months with Cumulus card discount (only 40chf) and will start using it when I receive my card

Have a good weekend

Re: Mobility vs. Renting - opinions?

There is a 25CHF/year "unireso" option if you have one of the local travel network abonnament (e.g. bus/train). It's a bit more expensive to use per km but good as a backup for those special occasions (van, stuck without the car, etc)

Otherwise quite a good review for Mobility in general from my side - I've used almost every vehicle category in their range and never had a problem. Only been stinged once when returning the vehicle late - but that was my fault. Since then I always over-book time-wise as it's cheaper to return early.

Protip: Please remember to call up the call center and report unreported damages to the car before driving away. there's a log book in the car, and if a damage is unreported therein, phone the call center and report it right away.
