Importing New Car - Inspection waiting time

Hello All,

I'm importing a brand new car, and will need to get it inspected as part of the registration process.

1. Does anybody know the approximate waiting time for an appointment?
2. Is it quicker to get an appointment at Winterthur-Wülflingen or Zürich-Albisgütli test centre?

Thanks

Your suggestion applies in principle to almost every question asked on this site.
I thought I would ask for peoples actual experience.

Re: Importing New Car - Inspection waiting time

You have been here 5 years now, and you obviously know the Newbies trick of asking people to phone the inspection centers, and ask them how long the waiting time is for an appointment. Do you really think we are going to know that?

Re: Importing New Car - Inspection waiting time

What makes you think I did not phone them? I already got their "standardised" answer on the phone, now I'm looking for the peoples actual experience.

I thought this forum was intended to be a helpful in that respect, and not full of trolls.

By the way, I lived here 10 years (and in Germany 5 years before), I speak fluent German mainly thanks to my wife. My low number of posts should give a hint how well integrated I am here... ;o)

Good luck to you my friend

Between the next day and two weeks.

May I ask why the rush?

Re: Importing New Car - Inspection waiting time

Replies from that Sprite guy is what really ticks me off about EF. Many people on this forum have so much haughtiness that they need to be banned (or better, sent back to where they came from). Such replies add no useful information, and only makes it difficult to find real, genuine replies, because you have to scroll through 10/20 replies to actually get to the answer. Personally, it makes me hesitate asking for any "experience - related" info. Mods should really delete such posts because they do nothing but pollute the site.

That said and vented out.. not to commit self fulfilling prophecy, let me add that: mid year is typically "low season" for registrations, so things should move fast enough. Zurich area can be nasty.. Winterthur, kloten, bulach and nearby villages are smart alternatives.

My record speaks for itself, but I cannot condone laziness.

Badener still hasn't received an answer, and probably never will: not many people are importing new cars every week during the summer break are they?

The OP asked a fair enough question, and he says he already called the place. Why do you make completely bizzare assumptions and accusations? Other people have tried to be helpful.

You reports show that you spend many hours huddled in front of your computer. Maybe you should get out more, enjoy the sunshine, maybe try to meet some locals instead of writing pointed little responses.

Agree completely with you.

People come here looking for help and infomation, and all they get is a snidey response.

You just look how often some people are online to realise that they absolutely nothing else to do, except to lurk around in front of the computer waiting to jump on some poor unsuspecting person.

Re: Importing New Car - Inspection waiting time

Some 'thanks' history doesn't entitle someone to be plain nasty and throw litter from their ivory tower. If we allow that, then we're reduced to corporate hierarchy - a big boss throwing unhelpful punchlines in a meeting, and sheepish employees keeping quiet. Internet isn't like that. It's like a dutch workplace where an intern can challenge a CEO, be heard, and get an excellent review for his inputs.

If we just look at which posts are 'thanked' in this thread alone, the thank/ groan system quickly loses its credibility. 'Thanks' could just be a little gesture that probably means "Hey, I know you! We met at the last EF kitty-party. You were the most good looking person there, and someday I hope to get in bed with you".. who knows what happens at the EF gatherings.

For that you definitely deserve the groan.

Re: Importing New Car - Inspection waiting time

Oh my god... I'm so scared! Can you please remove that groan? It sounded just like one hears at EF gathering..

Thanks/ groan history is public, by the way. And it's clear that there's some clan, weird, bro-love-effect at play.

Thanks.
They only gave me the option of Albisgütli or Winterthur.
Was it an inspection for a new registration that you had done, or just the regular MFK test?

I don't have the option to wait 5 weeks for the test, I need to have the vehicle on the road for various reasons.

Re: Importing New Car - Inspection waiting time

I just had the regular MFK test?

I checked in the internet and it does not say that Bülach is limited in any way except I understand they do not keep a store of number plates?

Best to ask?
