Wrong parking fine

Thursday night, I parked my car in white space and I paid for one hour (from 8-9 on Friday), the day after I went at 9.14 to put another coin to get another hour and there was no fine. When I went at 10 to move the car I found a fine of 80CHF made at 9.11 saying that I did not pay 56 minutes.
I am really hungry and I would like to not pay but I think is not a good idea. What can I do?

Re: Wrong parking fine

Often there is a notice that you cannot just add extra money once your initial time is up.

Search the forum, it's been discussed recently.

Whatever you do, don't just ignore the fine. Either pay it or contest it.

Re: Wrong parking fine

Yes, I guess that might be the problem but why 80 chf?and why 56 minutes when it could have been maximum 11m. I do not speak german, do I need a lawyer or can I write them in english?

Re: Wrong parking fine

From 09:00 to 09:14 you had not paid anything. A parking warden was watching you and at 09:11 he was writing his ticket, probably including the meter top up, which is definitely not allowed.

You should contest the fine for the 2 crimes, you are certain to get off lightly as you don't speak German and couldn't understand the parking signs.

Essentially, after 9 you were illegally parked. If a ticket was issued at 9.56, then you'd been illegally parked for 56 minutes.

If you're happy paying several hundred CHF in the vain hope of saving 80 CHF, then, sure, go for a lawyer.

I could imagine it went like this. The parking attendant noticed at 09.04 that the monied time was now over and decided to give you a few minutes more. You didn't see the ticket when you put another coin in the meter (not allowed) then the attendant came along again, car's still there - meter has been fed - and she issued a ticket based on the original 09.04. Let you off for feeding the meter.

Re: Wrong parking fine

The ticket was issued at 9.11 so 11 minutes more, the fine cannot be 80 CHf. The second hour was not mentioned on the fine. I agree that I was not legally parked for 14 minutes but I think is unfair that I have to pay double fine.

Yes, thanks for your suggestion, I think I will just go and give 300 franks to police without going at lawyer. That's a nice, congratulation for the brilliant comment!

Yes that's probably what happened. But it is annoying that it was not properly written. I always add coins on the parking machine and they never fine me so I assumed it was ok, especially if many other parking space are free!!

Re: Wrong parking fine

Please state all OBV-Numbers cited on the ticket.
https://www.admin.ch/opc/de/classifi...tion/19960142/

From your description of the events I guess it is 200.a (CHF 40) plus 201.5 (CHF 40). Nothing wrong with the ticked you got.

PS: Overstaying 1 min up to 2h costs the same.

Re: Wrong parking fine

203.4 it is actually because I added the coin. Shit I didn't know!I guess the girl controlling the street this week is a bitch. On Monday, a car with belgium plates got the wheels clamped in the white place, she was waiting for 30 minutes until police came!BTW thanks for the link with fine codes!

Just for the record. The reason why parking places were free was that people get fined for overstaying their time. If feeding the meter was permitted the spaces would doubtless all be occupied when you arrived.

The "girl" controlling the street is doing her job! Making sure that people do not overstay without paying and so making sure others can park there as well......

No, he didn't let the OP off, because then the fine would have been CHF 40.
CHF 40 is the fine for not paying or overparking up to two hours.
CHF 40 is the fine for illegally re-feeding the meter.
That's most likely why (s)he was fined CHF 80 instead of forty.

Re: Wrong parking fine

Maybe it depends on the indication on the traffic sign?

http://www.tagesanzeiger.ch/zuerich/...story/17655895

Anyhow, either the second 40 fr is for refeeding the meter or it is for not having refed the meter.

Total is 80 fr in both cases, anyway ...

And OP can be glad that the fine is the same for +- 20 years ...

For sure the "lady" was doing her job in my case, so I cannot complain to much. However, in the case of the foreigner car, the treatment was a little bit extreme considering that it was not that different from my case.
Common sense is important also in interpreting laws. They give a guideline but they cannot cover all possible events. In theory, I could have left my car for maximum 2 hours and that is what I did in the end.

Do you consider Zürich a big city???
Zürich is a rich city not big.

Re: Wrong parking fine

In Zurich, clamping is normally only done when there are several open, unpaid tickets.

VR:06 HR:11 => Front wheel valve at 6-o-clock, Rear wheel valve at 11-o-clock.

-00:00 +00:56 When she checked the first time your meter just expired. That was at 8:53. When she checked a second time you fed the meter 4 minutes ago (56 minutes remaining).
