Swiss Chard has no particular reputation at present
Driving Licence

Hello,

I am living in Bern for just over a year and have not applied for a Swiss driving licence. Does anyone know if I will be penalised for doing it after 12 months and do I loose my UK licence in doing so?

Cheers for feedback and advice,

Ingrid

Re: Driving Licence

Probably answered recently

Might still be a straight swap.. Else you need to do the whole test here.. And yes you give your UK license to the swiss but you get back if/when you return to the UK to stay.

Re: Driving Licence

You can swap your UK licence for up to five years, but you're not allowed to drive on it here after the first 12 months.

You'll need to hand in your UK licence when you get your Swiss, and it'll be returned to DVLA*

*I don't know if they actually physically return it or just inform them and destroy it.

UK licenses are now returned to DVLA, older ones not. I exchanged my license 20 years ago, however DVLA thinks my license is valid according to the check license part of their website. More recent exchange licenses show on DVLA's system as exchanged.
