2016 Vignette - I hope you don't have a red car...

... because it's PINK

I assume I can add this fashion accessory to my car from the start of December?

Tacitus has no particular reputation at present
Re: 2016 Vignette - I hope you don't have a red car...

I just saw one in an advert at the Post Office and I thought it looked more purple.... But since I am a guy, I have been reliably informed my color recognition is lacking...

I'm not a woman, so I would call that mauve; if I were a woman, I might call it opera mauve.

In a good day, I'd call it #B273A8. On a really good day I'd go get the NCS table and forget what I was really looking for...

Today, coz it's a lazy day, I'd call it more lavender... But mauve is actually pretty good. I actually don't think that word exists in my mother tongue!

Apparently it's "greyish orchid".

But not pink. It doesn't look like pink...

(Didn't understand the red car part. Red+pink was the colours of fashion 3 years ago. Is it usually considered a faux-pas?)

You can start using it after the 31st of January.

You can start using it from the end of January.
You can start using it from 01.12.2015 -- until 31.01.2017.

Just approximating with a casual glance, I'd call it RGB 178, 115, 168, although of course cyan: 0 (0), magenta: 35 (0.3539), yellow: 6 (0.0562), key: 30 (0.302) would get you there too. Approximately.

And yes, supposedly red and pink should never be seen. Or is that red and green...?

Hmmm... No idea... I'm not very fashion savvy. But the red and green are complimentary colours so it shouldn't be wrong? Man, my chirstmas trees are probably very, very fashion breaking...

Ah ah! Apprently it's a British thing That might explain why I never heard about it! I think the only weird colour advice from my home country is to never wear yellow. For some reason, yellow is apparently considered the enemy of fashion (funny enough I was reading a British inner architecture magazine this morning that said that you should ignore the advice to never use yellow, so I guess that one crossed borders? ).

I thought it was "blue and green without a colour in between".

Anyway, I'll let you know how I get on when I deal with the police and explain it clashes with my "mulberry" interior.

Re: 2016 Vignette - I hope you don't have a red car...

The color of the vignette doesn't really look good on my car.
What shall I do?
- avoid high ways for a year
- have the car repainted
- sell it to a less fashion-conscious forum member
- always park it in the dark

There are two versions of that saying;
Red and green never should be seen, except on the dress of an Irish Queen.
And
Red and green should never been seen without a colour in between.

The first possibly to do with the green of the land and the blood spilt upon it, the second because certain shades of both colours clash horribly and most people get it wrong!

I'm slightly biased however as the two colours are my adopted town's colours; Carouge in Geneva, husband's feet!

Re: 2016 Vignette - I hope you don't have a red car...

When questioned about the colour my colour blind husband declared it to be 'a sort of purple colour' which isn't bad from him.
Whatever it is it sure as heck isn't pink but it will look ok with my black car.

Our school uniform was bottle green and red ( green tie with red stripes and green blazer also with red stripes) and the red and green saying became "red and green should never be seen except on the Honley gobies" as a result.
I was very pleased when I got to sixth form and no longer had to wear that hideous uniform,

according to my mum and gran it's blue and green should never be seen (without a colour in between).

Yup, there's lots of discussion on the internets about those two versions.

It seems the original English saying was "red and green should never be seen" -- then the modifiers that Anjela mentioned above were added -- and later, someone changed it to "blue and green" because, well -- blue and green looks about as bad as red and green.

For the 8% of men who are red-green colour blind, red and green should definitely never be seen on the sports field.

So if I understand your diagram correctly, men see colours, whereas women see fruit and flowers?
