GA Pass, Panoramic Trains and Mountains!

Hello,

Today I discovered that I could use my GA pass on the Golden Pass panoramic train, and it was amazing! I loved the experience of gliding through the countryside!

However, it really surprised me. I somehow had it in my head that those were 'special' trains which didn't work with the GA... is there anything that doesn't?! Or can I literally use everything?! I get so worried that I'll be stopped and asked for my ticket...

Also, I know that with most cog railways/cable cars there is an extra charge even if you have the GA pass. But I know that you can go up Mount Rigi without needing to pay for anything extra. Are there any other mountains like this? Or do I have to pay more for all the others?

I know its a broad question, but just want to know if anyone has figured this all out... I certainly haven't yet!

Thank you for sharing your SBB wisdom!

So maybe the expected snow didn't come? If it had snowed the train windows would be white, and you wouldn't have seen a thing. I'm glad you had a great day off work.

On some trains, you pay a nominal fee for a reservation with the GA. It's really great if you use it.

Re: GA Pass, Panoramic Trains and Mountains!

The GA is valid on all public transport in Switzerland. That includes quite a few mountain railways and even some cable cars.
As a general rule of thumb: Anything that serves a place that is inhabited year round is considered public transport.

So yes, it is valid on the "Montreux - Oberland - Bernois" as this is just the local transportation company. "Golden Pass" is just marketing fluff. It is also valid till Wengen on the Wengeralpbahn, till Mürren, both on the Cable car up from Lautebrunnen, as well as the Stechelberg - Gimmelwal - Murren part of the Schilthorn bahn. And you can also take lakes steamers, and go up the Rigi (from both sides). It is one of the best deals in Switzerland in my opinion.

On mountain railways that are not part of the public transport network (eg the Wengeralpbahn beyond Wengen, or the Schilthornbahn above Mürren) the GA does give you 50% off. Still a good deal .

The only trains where this is needed are The Glacier Experss, and the Panoramic cars on the Bernina express.
