Zurich - Instant Strafbefehl instead of Busse for driving too fast?

So a few months ago I was "geblitzt" for driving a few km/h too fast in a 30er zone.

Today I got a Strafbefehl with a Busse of 40.- (fair enough) and a "Kosten- und Gebührenbauschale" of 90.-

I did not get any prior notification.

Why did this happen? Anything I can do? (Of course not )

If you read the notification carefully you will see that you can appeal your punishment, but the first step must be made in writing to the mentioned authority.

You will then be invited to appear before a judge, who may increase your fine and the costs.

I know this won't end well.

My question is why didn't I get a regular Busse?

I have no idea, but would you please be kind enough to translate your German words for us non-Natives?

Using a translator I can get that Strafbefehl is some sort of penalty and Busse is a fine, but I can't figure out the difference between the two. What is Gebührenbauschale? This kind of info could be helpful to others in the future.

Gebühren pauschale (spelling was wrong) - flat processing fee - excess fee!

@ 3Wishes: he was fined Fr 90 for a poor spelling mistake.

@ native: my answer for you is that somebody has to pay for all the administration: finding you, writing the letter & postage, and Sfr 40,-- just isn't enough.

Lost in the mail.

Important: Does the Strafbefehl say that a copy is forwared to the Strassverkehrsamt/Amt für Administrativmassnahmen/Abteilung Administrative Verkehrssicherheit ?

A fine may be issued aside from the Strafbefehl, perhaps this depends on whether you take it to court or not. If you want a reliable answer ask the authorities that sent you the Strafbefehl.

Withdrawal of driving license for a limited period may follow. You seem to have been more than "a few" km too fast (probably more than 15km/h above the limit), otherwise there wouldn't be a Strafbefehl but just an ordinary fine.

=====================================

As for translation of Strafbefehl: There's none AFAIK.

Strafbefehl is kind of a shortened trial where the prosecuting attorney issues the verdict, i.e. no judge gets involved. This only happens in minor cases where the verdict would be quite clear if actually taken to court. The idea is to take work load off the courts.

That will happen after the Strafbefehl has become "rechtskräftig" (legally valid).
