Current construction status on German Autobahn?

Anyone care to report on the current load of construction on the German highways, specifically the route from Basel to Stuttgart and on up to Kassel and Hamburg? We're heading to Denmark on Saturday, which I'm 100% confident will be no holiday traffic (/sigh) and I recall that in August we had crazy amounts of traffic due to a high amount of construction activities. What's it currently like up there?

Re: Current construction status on German Autobahn?

This German website lists road works (Baustellen) by Autobahn number:

The webcams at this site might also be useful.

Re: Current construction status on German Autobahn?

I always use Via Michelin, very good information on route, no delays at this time today,

Germany avoids autobahn construction in the Winter months.

Only minor construction-works up until Hamburg. From Hamburg to Flensburg there's a lot of construction, so if you're heading for Copenhagen, I would suggest the ferry from Puttgarden.

Btw. We're also leaving for Denmark this Saturday, but have actually booked the AutoZug from Lörrach to Hamburg this time.

Re: Current construction status on German Autobahn?

Construction works are seasonal... not much going on in winter. But you are going cross country on a route with few alternatives (unlike say the Ruhrgebiet)... it takes only one accident to cause a major chaos.

That's not a bad tip, thanks. Not sure I want the dog on a 6 hour train trip, but I'll keep it in mind, cheers.

Tell me about it. We do this a couple times each year - go as early as possible to minimize the chance of accident-based disruption, and that's about all we can do.

Re: Current construction status on German Autobahn?

In case anyone else is driving this way, I'm not seeing any active construction, but there are several points where the road narrows to enable construction on the route from Basel to Stuttgart. They were fine at 7am, but I expect them to get backed up later in the day (they were very narrow 80kph zones).
