Re: Providing vehicle registration info when selling a car

Haha yes that's a good point. Ok I'll tell her to block out that number and be done with it.

I'm sorry if I appear very untrusting but back in Paris when a person is selling a car it is unheard of to give an address like that to your home via email and yes you do meet up at a public parking lot or somewhere not far from home but still not home.

Block out the address if you want but I really don't see why people bother blocking the registration number. If you had any sense you block the info at the stva anyway.

Knowing the registration number you "Could" forge the document and take legal possession of the car, which is why the photos of cars for sale have the number plate blacked out.

With the car papers in your hand you can go to the office and take ownership, the Swiss do not expect any agreement nor contact from the owner.

A friend bought a car, before her marriage, then unknown to her the husband put the car into his name. When it came to a divorce, she did not own her car. We went to the finance company in Winterthur (and just before they destroyed their 5 year old documents!!) we obtained a copy of the original sales transaction, with which she regained ownership of her car.

Re: Providing vehicle registration info when selling a car

She published it with the plate number so I guess that's done now.
Ok thank you all for the info. Apparently overzealous with some things and let the plate number appear on the ad. I suppose nothing she can do now.

The Swiss registration paper has nothing to do with ownership. The person listed in it has not to be the owner nor does it mean he is the owner.

The person listed in the gray card is the holder. The holder is responsible for road worthiness, that the insurance is in order, road tax, and any unpaid simple fines.

Personally I would be suspicious if asked to meet the seller in a car park....
Why?

We have done so, and bought the car.
