Has anyone tried to buy a car on an L permit? I'd be buying an older car (maybe a Cinquecento or a Twingo) and paying cash, but I'm not sure if I have to wait for the new permit quotas so I can switch from an L to a B.

I've heard people say you can't buy a car on an L permit but I'm not sure if this is because they couldn't get financing or because there's some rule preventing you from registering it.

(I'm in Ticino, and I'm American if that makes a difference.)

Nah, I bought cash on an "L".

The garage checked with the Gemeinde (local government) that I lived there and I'd arranged insurance already.
