Speeding fine with english plates

Hi all. There may already be a thread on here about this but couldn't seem to find anything. If you get flashed for speeding on english plates and dont have a permanant address, do i still expect a fine or will they just ignore it. I know in the UK the DSA have started chasing fogeign cars for breaking the law etc. Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

PS: I am very dissapointed in myself by the way

Re: Speeding fine with english plates

No shouldn't be any problem getting flashed on a UK plate
I did it enough times before getting registered.

Unfortunately the same doesn't apply to France, they asked for cash. .

Just relax. Life is too short to stress over some speeding fine. If they catch you then just pay up. End of story.

Re: Speeding fine with english plates

yeah thanx for the therapy ... just if your caught on swiss plates going quite a bit over the limit... eg. 120 in a 60, you get invited to a court appearance or your car gets seized or somthing that helps by giving you an unhealthy bloodpressure so just making sure,. Thanks anyway

believe you me, if you've been going that fast, I'd be prepared to hide the car and maybe get a new registration number....

Re: Speeding fine with english plates

well thanx.. thats really made me feel more at ease ... Thats why i was asking, incase, if you do got over by a certain ammount the police suddenly become interested in getting their clamps on your car. So I decided to leave it in the hotel car park and use a company car from now on. Im sure i wasent that much over the limit as that was my first speed camera experience so it took me a few mins to rule out "lightening, someone taking pictures, other cars headlights etc." and then realised it was probally a speed camera so wasent exactly glued to the speedo ... Thanks anyway

you're joking, right?
speeding in inappropriate areas is expensive; where it's safer, it's cheaper.

Plus no points.

I reckon the system is great. Easy to understand price-list, margin of error clearly defined. Bill through the post. Bang to rights guv.

Re: Speeding fine with english plates

if you really were much over the allowed speed limit , then prepare to be billed,Swiss police will get in touch with the UKs DVLA and if you still got a residental address in the UK,they send the bill there, if you do not pay it,then your name will be put onto a list at customs and should you want to enter CH or in this case leave CH ,chances are that you might get arrested or have to pay the fine ..........

I came across something similar during my work for expats and at least in Ct. Bern it works that way.
However if your speed excess was not extreme, then chances could be that you'll get away scotfree.

Aah, I've personally never been affected with speeding fines.. but I heard one person I know had to pay almost near a grand for speeding 10-15 miles on a 30 MPH Zone..

I guess it was a bit exaggerated by him then !

Re: Speeding fine with english plates

Speeding and parking tickets are almost the only crime that has complete international cooperation. Whether the authorities bother is another question...

you pay the most for exceeding the 50kph limit. 10-15Mph means 16-24Kph over.....and gets you a warning and a fine linked to your income.

As I said, speeding inappropriately gets bigger fines.

Cheers Lob for the info...
One question... I've never seen cops pull over people for speeding.. it's usually just the speeding cameras...isn't it...

Is it just me ? or anyone have different experiences ?

I've seen the police using 'mass speed checks' on the autobahn just after you enter canton Graubunden. There's a rest stop on the right and they use the radar from in there, almost impossible to spot. Everyone thought they were OK until well after Chur, some 20 km further on, when a squad of police slowed all traffic to 50kph and pulled over cars by the dozen. Not me though.

It does seem that most speeding is caught by camera though. Some of these are mobile and can be mounted on autobahn bridges. But you will find spot checks anywhere anytime - looking for non-wearing of seat belts, lights, tyres etc. (There's a heavy fine for not wearing tyres by the way.) Watch out too for unmarked police cars, usually a 4 door saloon with two men in doing 118kph on the autobahn. You only know it's the plod when the sign lights up in their back window...

Re: Speeding fine with english plates

I've been chased by the police. Shame on me

Watch out for dark green Omegas with tinted windows and a POLIZEI HALT LED sign

On the bright side, I've done 140kph past a marked police car at 6am in Ticino And I will overtake the cops with 130 on the clock. With over-read and their -7% that they must take off, you frankly are not speeding
