Re: Geneva Airport Parking

You could try P51.

There's some information on it here:
http://www.parking4less.co.uk/switze...rt_parking.htm

It's not super-cheap but not excessive.

Re: Geneva Airport Parking

Hi all,
What's the actual parking like at the airport? Can you get parked? If not is there a park and ride option?

Cheers

Re: Geneva Airport Parking

I've never failed to find a parking slot in all the years I've used it. Most of the time I can park in P1 but it can get full, especially recently as they've closed whole floors for renovation. 5 minutes walk away and much cheaper is P51 but it's a bit awkward if you have to push a cart in the rain. If P1 and P51 are full there's always lots of parking at the Rail station/Palexpo exhibiton centre which are right next door (really part of the airport complex) or P20 on the French sector of the airport. Because of the one way system it's just a bit of a hassle if you enter the airport and find P1 and P51 full. You have to leave the airport area and rejoin the autoroute (follow signs for lausanne) for a few hundred yards before leaving it again and following signs for Palexpo or Fearney Voltaire for the French sector.

Yeah, it's called the train, it's far more convenient, far more reliable and far cheaper than any car or car park !

Re: Geneva Airport Parking

As Nev says there is nearly always availability in P1 but it is more expensive. If we are going to park at the airport we always go for P51 but it gets full and you could get caught out (especially in school holiday time).

You can check how many spaces are available at all the airport carparks, in real time, at this site http://www.gva.ch/en/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-65/

We were heading out during the first week of the current school hols and checked the site to see how many P51 spots were available before leaving home. There were 13 the night before, but only 3 available that morning, so we left the car at home and took the train.

Re: Geneva Airport Parking

I don't mind paying. I'm just picking someone up. I'll only be there for an hr or so. Although he's Easyjet so that's delays pending.

Not necessarily. If we are going somewhere for less than a week it is cheaper for us to park in P51 at the airport than to take the train there and back from Lausanne (without half price cards).

No problem then. You can park virtually at the front door at Geneva airport. It's brilliant.

And it is fairly cheap too, even if you are there longer than expected. (Check the link I posted above for rates)

Having dealt with the prices at Sydney airport parking I am always shocked at how cheap it is to park at Geneva.

Providing you find a place, or don't mind taking the risk of having to park in expensive parking or miss you flight. I agree for 2 people it's cheaper to drive, but there again if you travel to Geneva from Lausanne more than 5 times it's cheaper to buy half price card, plus of course you can go everywhere else and explore CH as well

French sector????
Yes, you can fly in to Geneva and exit via the French sector if you are continuing in the EU. This also avoids the hassle with customs if you are carrying high value goods which are going to remain in the EU.

This has worked well for me as I often buy expensive kit for my servers which are hosted in mainland Europe but often buy the kit in the UK.

You need to request one of the airport staff to collect your suitcase which they will do and bring it to you.

I have done this a couple of times and I have no problems what so ever.

Ah, I love the dumb comments on here.

I'm going to be travelling from Zurich to Geneva Airport tomorrow, with 2 kids under 3 years old.

I know the trains are reliable, but when you have luggage and a double-pram to lug on and off the IR trains, it isn't more convenient. And right now, Geneva Airport is displaying that there are no parking spaces in P51, P1, P31, P32 and P33.

Which is why threads like this, asking if there are alternative places to park are useful.

Saying that trains are far more reliable helps nobody, and adds nothing to the thread !!!

Good nice to know you don't like the dumb questions here, hopefully you won't ask too many.

1) There is a direct train from Zurich to Geneva airport, an intercity so absolutley no need to change whatsoever, try checking the SBB website, it's in English and you can see for yourself whaich trains are direct.

2) There is a parking right infront of the airport, the only draw back is it is very expensive. All the parkings you have mentinoed ar ethe cheaper parklings, well away from the airport and i would think it would be far more inconvenient to lug the pram, the kids and the luggage from an outside parking than the rail station that is in the airport itself, complete with baggage trolley and escalators.

3) The train crew will more than willingly assist you to get on the train. That is to say if nobody else has already. In general when you have kids in pushchairs, several people will assit you to get it, you and you luggage on the train.

4) There are designated places for mothers with pushchairs on the train that people should give up. If they don't go ask a member of the train crew who will assist you.

5) If you ask a train crew member to assist you in getting on the train, he will also do his best to find you a place

6) There can be exceptions to the above, but it's quite rare.

7) I would suggest you try travelling outside rush hours if possible, this is only fair to other people

8) When you check the website you can see how full the trains are expected to be.

9 & 10) Sorry for my dumb comments, pay for the parking, get stuck in trafic, miss your flight then come back and moan.

I have nothing against Dumb Questions. Just dumb pointless comments.

Unfortunately, my family and I don't live in the Zurich HB train station. So, yes, we would have to travel to Zurich HB to get this direct train. Exactly how we'd do that without changing transport as some point is beyond me.

Really ?
I have regularly used prams with the trains, passengers are always happy to help us get up and down the stairs, but this doesn't detract from the fact that it's painful getting a double pram, and a car seat & luggage for 4 people on and off a train.

And we have never been helped into the train by train staff. Usually, the train arrives and we have 2-3 minutes before it leaves. That ain't enough time to track down someone from the train crew.

You obviously don't have young children.

Errr, I've done this before.
I know this.
And people should give up these seats for us. But this doesn't always happen. Have you tried this yourself recently ?

You obviously don't have young children.

Now you're just being naive.

The only possible flight from Geneva is at 1.30pm. We must leave home around 7.30am.
What would you recommend ?

Your comments were dumb and pointless.

This is a thread, from someone (just like myself) who has decided that they are going to take their car, and wanted some advice.

Your comments added nothing to the thread.

Btw, for the less naive, we ended up using Parking Friend, http://www.parking-friend.com, and they were excellent. Highly recommended.

(That's what's called a helpful comment, Charlie.)

We too have faced the problem with the Geneva airport parking being full, so we ended up using the ValetParking.

Isn't there anybody here who would be happy to have a car on their drive and arrange a friendly ' discreet payment' for EF members?
Bertrand a nice way to make a bit of 'beurre sur les épinards' (butter on the spinach = a bit of extra cash).
