| | | Anyone else lamenting the loss of the Swiss Weekend Special?
I noticed that Swiss are not offering it any more.
I always thought it was a great thing and also got me out of the country more often than without it.
Why Swiss, why???

Agreed. Today's "last minute specials" from Zurich included London for 189 CHF. A quick early look showed that the first date that this was available was the last Friday in March.
I'm going to have to organise my spontaneity somewhat from here on.

a typical week might have five destinations including perhaps london, rome, nice, stuttgart, and barcelona, often for less than chf 200 including taxes.
I availed myself of this offer frequently to go back to England last minute, because as we all know the airlines otherwise charge high prices for travelling that close to booking time. I also used it to go here and there to other places. Some friends of mine used to disappear every other weekend.
Alas, they have now stopped giving this offer.

Aha, I see,
Well since Swiss reduced the cost of all Eurocities flights to CHF 199 or less then there is no more need of this weekend specials
Now they made the "weekend specials" permanent | Quote: | | | | | Until now, every Wednesday, Swiss released a number of weekend specials for travel that coming weekend... i.e. book wednesday, travel friday or saturday.....

If only, Mr Salsa_Lover.
I too saw that advert promising such flights... and was excited, so i checked with a swiss colleague at work... he had seen the advert but pointed out that the small print says "From".... the advert is then misleading.
So I just checked to book these chf 199 "permanent" specials!
Flying to london this saturday and returning sunday, the cheapest option with swiss is greater than chf 1000.
Ok, lets be more flexible... going friday and returning monday.... the very cheapest economy option is chf 463.
Fine... surely next weekend then, travelling out saturday and returning sunday on their cheapest flights.... chf 522.
Sadly then, the permanent chf 199 fares are nothing but a myth.

Yes, we are discussing the aer lingus to gatwick route on another thread... very cheap at the moment, but not great flying times.... return flights are 12.40pm.

Best option was flying on a Sat morning, returning on Monday afternoon/evening with Swiss. The weekend of the 21/22 Feb was really expensive for some reason.
Expedia gave me crap return flights - always too early in the evenings.
Hope this helps you find something cheaper.

The period 14 - 22 February seems to be a general Europe 'skiing/winter break'. EVERYBODY is going skiing in that particular weekend and the prices for even the tiniest apartments are more than disgusting...
Here in the UK there is a half term for all schools.
Anyone knows if any of the cheap, no frills airlines flies to either Geneva, Zurich or Basel? |

Some suggested that perhaps the offer only went away over the valentines weekend.
Unfortunately not true, it does indeed seem to be no more.

Cant say much for the service though.
