Never used it personally and it looks like it could be expensive for only once unless you have a general abo to the railway already.

I would have suggested the mobility.ch too but if it's just a one off then I wouls compare prices of car hire from the airport - hertz etc.

We do this once in every while - you can rent a car for the day, and we make a big trip out to the supermarket and stock up on everything! Its a great
way to save a bunch and not have to constantly go shopping for groceries!

We probably do it every couple of months, and just use the car hire places - either the one behind the SBB or at the airport.

Try sixt, they are quite cheap. We rented cars a couple of times there.

You can do a one off with mobility, it is a special membership via the SBB, not the normal Mobility membership that is valid for a year, and the rates are different too, cannot remember the name but Mobility.ch is in English too...

www.sixti.com also have good rate (8 CHF per day for Smart).

I don't know about Basel, but my experience in Zürich with sixti has been to be given a Fiat Punto every time I have rent a Smart...its a gamble but it may save you some cash..
