Hello everyone.

I have some close friends I would like to visit in Leeds, UK. I currently live in Zurich. (Moved here 8 months ago from Canada) I am wondering if anyone on here has made that same trip and what route they took to get there reasonably priced in a reasonable amount of time.

I have looked online for flights and there do not seem to be any direct to Leeds... So I looked into direct flights to Manchester (A train from Manchester to Leeds would be about 1 hour travel from what I recall) but cannot find anything less than around 500 francs. Does this seem a bit steep to you? It pretty much cost me that much to fly from Toronto to Manchester!!

Manchester is your best route and I'm sure you should get it cheaper. Friends have come the other way with Helvetic (booked through Swiss) for about 200 Chf. Otherwise you could get a very cheap flight to Luton with Easyjet and take the train changing at Sheffield

If you have a GA, and don't mind a quick hop across Switzerland, you can also fly pretty cheaply from Geneva to East Midlands (near Nottingham) and Birmingham airports, neither of which are a million miles from Leeds, with bmibaby.

You can get from Nottingham to Leeds direct (or with a change at Chesterfield) by train in about 2 hours; from Birmingham International to Leeds in about 2 and a half hours, with a change at Birmingham New Street. http://www.thetrainline.com

Yes this is exactly what I ended up opting for after checking out a bunch of suggestions!!

I'll be heading down at the end of May.

Whenever flying from Zürich it always pays to also check fares and timings from Basel and Geneva. They are just a short hop by train and in terms of low cost airlines you tend to get better deals and more destinations.
