Booking in Easy Jet

Hallo All,
Just wanted to know some information on few things related to booking air tickets in Easy Jet.
Say i book a ticket from Geneva to Paris in easy jet and the amount shown is CHF 45. When i go for confirmation, it includes some extra charges for Travel Insurace, Speed check in etc and the one is Weight which is around CHF 18...
My question is - Is not even a single baggage allowed for a ticket - that is - do we need to pay anyway for 1 piece of luggage or is it 20 KG is free ?? Or is my understanding wrong. I am a bit confused ....Any inputs will be helpful to proceed further. Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Manish

Re: Booking in Easy Jet

you have to pay for hold luggage allowane i.e 20kg is NOT free, hand luggage is ok, as long as it meets the dimensions mentioned on the website/fits in the box thingy near the checkout desk, there is no weight limit on that as far as I know.

rest of the stuff you can un-select...

hope it helps :-)

Re: Booking in Easy Jet

Booking online it is really necessary to read the baggage limitations and other regulations if you don't fly often. The rules keep changing depending on offer price etc. If you wait till you are filling in the booking you could get surprised with extra charges or extra to pay in the airport.

I haven't used Easy Jet but other operators have a weight limit for hand luggage as well as size limit.

Re: Booking in Easy Jet

You can get onboard with reasonable sized hand luggage and avoid paying for hold luggage. I find the allowance sufficient to travel for 3 days; over that and I need to check luggage and pay the additional fee. Also be aware that you need to uncheck the other options such as fast boarding and insurance. But, if you pay with a credit card you will be charged a processing fee. They accept a couple of debit cards without fee but I forget which ones.

Re: Booking in Easy Jet

Just a thought but have you tried Air France? They fly direct from Geneva to Paris (Charles de Gaulle as opposed to Orly) there are lots of daily flights and no hidden costs. The price you see is the price you pay. I was surprised to see how competitve they are. We use them to London all the time now as recently they have always come up cheaper than even the budget airlines and you get a free baggage allowance, drinks and a snack (nothing special but at least it's included). Could be worth a try?

I got sick of SqueezyJet charging extra for everything thing they could think of and the whole concept of "negative options" (i.e. un-tick the box or deselect something if you DON'T want it) is just downright sneaky in my humble opinion.

Re: Booking in Easy Jet

Hallo All,
Thanks for your inputs. I wil ltry for Air france as well. I found Easy jet as cheapest...but yes, better to check air france.

I have another question, Can i book for my friend on credit card for his travel ? Is it necessary that credit card should be in name of passenger ?

Thanks,
Manish.

I think this is actually not allowed. New rules state that you shouldn't need to opt-out for extras but instead should opt-in

I don't believe Easy Jet do this anymore but if they do, then they should be reported.

Sorry, I don't have a source but heard it on BBC radio 4 the other day.

Re: Booking in Easy Jet

It is not necessary for the person who travels to be the person who pays for the ticket. But when you fill in the name of the traveller on the website make sure you put the name exactly as it appears in the travel document they will use. Your credit card will be charged immediately.

Re: Booking in Easy Jet

Have you thought about taking the train? It is normally faster when travelling to Paris once you factor in plane check-in times, and travelling between city centres and airports, plus you are much less limited with luggage (it's basically whatever you can carry). If you book a bit in advance, you can get some good deals at tgv.com. There are daily direct trains leaving from Geneva, Lausanne, Neuchatel, Bern, Basel and Zurich.

Anywho, it's just a thought.

Re: Booking in Easy Jet

I can vouch for train. Even if it is a little bit more expensive, you have to factor in the cost and time of getting from the airport into Paris Nord or one of the other main stations.

I have noticed that it depends on where my starting point is as to whether I have to "untick" the insurance box or not : Geneva I have to, England I don't. Hadn't thought about why before, but I expect that the law you quote only applies to UK and not here.

Apart from that, I have no problem paying extra for when I have luggage. If I'm travelling with only hand luggage, why should I pay the same as someone who needs their suitcase put on the plane ? At least (as far as I know) Easyjet are not considering making you pay for use of toilets like Ryan air have suggested

It's an EU law - here's some info

Thanks for that. I was pretty sure that negative options, especially on insurance have been against the law (certainly in the UK) for years. Automatic payment protection when you took out a loan was a particular favourite in the late 80s and early 90s and had everyone up in arms - and rightly so.

I just "booked" a flight on easyJet and, yes, they're still up to no good. Whilst Speedy Boarding and the Speedy Boarding Family Discount have to be added ("opt-in"), the baggage allowance is still automatically calculated (i.e. 3 bags charged for 2 adults + a child over 2 years of age) so it's up to you to change it if you don't need/want it ("opt-out")

And yes they DO still include insurance (with the words "Great value easyJet travel insurance has been added automatically to your basket for your convenience and peace of mind....... You can click 'Remove' if you already have insurance or this product is not right for you.")

But here's the rub...I was "booking" return flights from ZRH to LGW, the insurance is an opt-out so I could be lumbered if I don't notice it but get this bit! - "easyJet Travel Insurance is for UK residents only" - a double-whammy!! Paying for insurance for the whole family and we can't actually use it!!! Where do these guys get off??

Sorry, I didn't mean to hi-jack this thread and turn it into an easyJet rant but this sort of thing really gets my goat. I agree they should be reported. Who to?

I've just tested this, for the fun of it, and it makes no difference. It's included wherever you start and no matter either whether you use the .ch or the co.uk website. What a wind up...

Re: Booking in Easy Jet

Probably off topic but want to share this one.
I recently booked a flight with Easyjet (Basel to Rome) and yes I had to remove all the options that were included. This was the first time I was flying Easyjet, since I usually use Swiss. I travelled alone with my daughter, who is one year old, so I was a little bit worried about going low cost - no frills. But I had a very positive impression. The stroller was allowed for free, with delivery at the aircraft. I was allowed to board before all the other passengers (never happened with Swiss), so that me and my daughter had all the time to "adjust" ourselves with no hassle. And the hostess told me that I could call her in any moment and she would help me with anything needed (changing, etc.). I must admit that for my experience Easyjet is more children (and mum) friendly than Swiss and that it is not worth paying the extra for a glass of water.

We've found EasyJet really child-friendly as well. The staff do seem to go the extra mile to assist.

Re: Booking in Easy Jet

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression. I've flown with easyJet, alone and with my family more times than I can remember and it's always been a positive experience on the ground and in the sky. The staff are indeed very helpful and friendly especially when you have young children (Lufthansa didn't even give us a seatbelt attachment for our baby, they just said "if we have any turbulence, just hold on to her tight!"). I also like the choice on the refreshment trolley .

It's just the sales and booking aspect that irritates me for the reasons already explained. I'm sure it's only been like this since they went public...

I knew it hasn't always been included for me when I've booked, so also did a test ... amazingly if I book the same flight from Luton to Geneva in French, no insurance comes up but in English it does !!!! Don't quite see the logic there, but it just happened !

Ahaaa, maybe this is precisely because the insurance is only valid for UK residents. Perhaps the chosen language is the only basis they use to determine whether or not you are a UK resident (even though they clearly shouldn't be doing it at all, regardless of residency). Thanks for the tip though, I'll book my flights in French next time
