Switching my Dubai driver's license

Lately I've been taking driving lessons with a local instructor in the canton of Luzern to familiarize myself with the Swiss driving rules, in order to be prepared for a driving check/test to get my Dubai driver's licensed switched over.

I've downloaded the formula from the LU strassenverkehrsamt (spelling?) filled it up and made my way to get an eye test done. Interesting part here, as I arrived the eye test centre, I asked for an eye test for a driving exam, gave them my application form (which was already printed in with my name and address), and they proceeded to make me the eye test. Done, got the official stamp, lady filled in her part, I paid and left. They didn't ask me for any sort of identification. Now who could have known who's name it really was on that application form?

I headed to the geminde in Horw, I was told I needed to get a stamp regarding population or something like that. The man behind the window at the geminde said to me I have to get permission from my school to permit any stamps or transactions, then I said to him this is for a driving license convertion, then he said you don't have to change you're driving license because I am student. I said to him well I believe that rule says after one year the license must be converted to a Swiss one, he neglected what I said and walked over to the opposite side where the police window was, starting the Swiss german convo with the police man, I was proved right was told I don't even require that stamp. So I made my way to the strassenvehrkersamt, gave my application and was on my way.

I am now waiting on my letter of invitation to arrive stating the date of my driving check/test. They said it would take a week till I recieved the invitation but nothing as of yet.

Just wanted to share my experience so far. Feel free to add anything you want!

I would say it went pretty well actually! Though I received the invitation letter for the examination couple months later. Unfortunately the date of my driving test was exactly on the day of my graduation ceremony, I had to write back to the traffic department requesting a later or earlier date. It didn't take a week until another invitation letter was sent with an adjusted date 5 days later than the original.

On the day of the test the driving instructor who examined me was pretty ok, we almost had an accident during the exam!! but was the other party's fault! haha

As for driving lessons, I took them in Luzern with a cool instructor, charged me 85 Swiss Francs per hour, I took about 13-15 lessons (1 hour each lesson) so do the math. I think the lessons helped me very much, for this matter I also learned way more than I had with my Dubai drivers license.

The examination driver + the license + conversion fee + postage cost me exactly CHF 215 if I remember correctly. Passed the test and my Dubai license was returned with a white sticker on the back stating "Invalid to drive in Switzerland"
