Motorcycle inspection requirements

Hello all,
I am new to this forum and will be moving to the Grabs area (Canton St. Gallen) in a few weeks for a new job. I will be bringing with me my beloved 1987 BMW R80RT and am looking forward to riding it around the Alps.

My question concerns the Swiss vehicle inspection. What are the major modifications that typically need to be done. My bike is very stock with nothing particularly special on it. However, I was concerned about the tires. I have "H" rated tires - good for up to 210 km/h. I was worried if they would make me change them to "V", even though there is very little chance my bike could get anywhere near that speed. I am trying to figure that out so I can change them here if necessary.

Thanks much for any help.
Scott

Re: Motorcycle inspection requirements

Sorry, you have to move somewhere else...
One Scott in Rheintal is enough

Welcome! Look forward to meeting you sometime soon. Who will you be
working for?

Motorcycles have inspection regulations which, IMO, are quite normal.
Nothing extraordinary or out of this world. Safety, operation, exhaust,
noise level... all to be expected.

My classic has been through the inspection a couple times... I usually let
the service center/garage inspect the bike in advance. Saves on any
unexpected inspection discrepancies.

The Swiss are not too worried about the tire rating. As long as the minimum
is above the Swiss speed limits. Who knows, it is always possible that you
drive into Germany to vent the exhaust

Re: Motorcycle inspection requirements

Wow, that is great. Good to hear from someone in the area. Also good to hear that I shouldn't worry about buying V rated tires as it would cost me another bunch of money I don't feel like spending right now.

I will be working for Dividella in Grabs and plan on living in Wildhaus - my fiance lined up an apartment already.

And yes, a trip to Germany may be in order on occasion to make sure all is in working order

Thanks again.

Re: Motorcycle inspection requirements

Good company. My brother in-law works there. He is some sort of production
manager or something like that. Living in Wildhaus... Really nice area... Was
just there today for lunch.

Only problem is in Winter... Driving down the mountain to Grabs will be fun!

Spring, Summer and Fall - a blast on the bike!

Re: Motorcycle inspection requirements

Very good point about the winter drive - I have experienced it a couple of times already. Maybe I will take the bus sometimes

Who is your brother-in-law. I will be starting at Dividella either first or second week of May.

Everything gets packed up for shipping May 4. So it is all happening soon. Thanks again for the information.
