I have been through all the threads on this forum and have seen some very helpful hints and ideas of where to get insurance from however I have only managed to one link for Stuart Collins & Co. I asked and they will not insure a driver bellow the age of 30, being 24 this is a slight issue.

I know its possible to do such a thing as I have met many Nurburgring drivers who keep a UK car in Germany. It doesn't have to be a Swiss based insurance company, it can be UK, France or whatever., just anything that will let you stay abroad for up to a year.

If you have done this before I would be very grateful if you can post a link, telephone number, name, or email, so I can contact them and obtain piece of mind.

Bit of a toughie Bash as I went through this last year, but I managed to extend my UK insurance by a further 3 months with some careful negotiation in extending my Green card, told them was on temp assignment, before they declined to go any further.

I then approached couple of Swiss insurers who insured my RHD UK spec car with UK reg plate- and had no problems in doing this. Did it through Winterthur.

The one caveat was that I was only insured for Switzerland!!! and not able to drive out of the country on that insurance.

Now on Swiss plate and Swiss insurance

Zurich Connect (http://www.zurichconnect.ch/site4/gm.../auto/auto.htm) cover my UK car, on UK plates, with me on a UK license, and they provided a green card for the whole year so I'm covered anywhere in Europe. And, they do all the paperwork in English! The only downside is they were quite expensive compared to the UK - just shy of 1800CHF for a 1.2 Fiat 500. However when I asked around at work about car insurance prices, everyone else pay in the 1200-1500CHF range, so maybe that's not too bad for Switzerland.

I brought my UK car over and got insurance with Liverpool Victoria who offer 180 days European cover. I then drove home for Christmas after the 180 days had expired and returned a few days later- this starts another 180 days insurance.
I also recently found ecar insurance whose pay as you go and annual car insurance includes european cover, but you would have to check the details of primary residence etc....

Hi all. Think I am in the right thread. I need a car and want to buy one from the UK as they are cheaper and drive it back. I am now a B permit holder and live in CH. Has anyone done this? I assume you need to be a UK resident to buy a car in the UK and I don't even have a UK license as I changed it to a Swiss one. Any help much appreciated as I have seen A Golf 4 motion and have fallen in love.
