As a Swiss Citizen and an American Citizen I wont be changing status when I get there, does this change anything in this regard?
It sounds like you are going to change your residency status which will have implications for your US and Swiss tax declarations as well as for import of personal effects.

So, since I am a dual citizen, and assuming I meet the 6 month qualification, do I have to pay the VAT or not?

Re: Buy new car in US or buy local?

I don't believe Audi has such a program. On the other end, Volvo, BMW, and Mercedes have a very nice European delivery program. Saab also but do they still exist?
Porsche's Euro delivery program sucks. They even make you pay more for it and pocket the savings.
A few years ago, I bought a Volvo through their European delivery program. I took delivery in Sweden and 10 weeks later, I got the car in San Francisco. The airfare and hotel bills were paid by Volvo. It was also a very good deal on the car. The car was a piece of junk but that is beside the point!

But with the sad state of the automobile industry in the US, I think that you can probably save more money by haggling over a car that is sitting right now on a dealer's parking lot.

Dual citizenship is not residency. Its residency that satisfies the requirement not citizenship.

[...]otherwise a legacy wagon).
BTW, the Legacy wagon is no longer sold in the US (since MY2008). Now it's either the Outback wagon or the Legacy sedan.

Re: Buy new car in US or buy local?

The G37 is a great car for the money in the USA but I question the wisdom of importing one here even if you are prepared to pay the VAT and go through the hassle of getting the lights, speedometer etc. modified to meet Swiss regulations. If you do get one, I would opt for the AWD version but I think this only comes with an automatic gearbox. Depending on where you live and how much time you want to spend going up to ski resorts, you could find this a bit impractical in the wintertime. But with the dollar at 1.09 CHF you will save almost CHF25,000. I do see a few Infinitis on the roads here but with a sticker price of CHF65,000 plus I guess people with that kind of money to spend opt for an Audi or BMW

Re: Buy new car in US or buy local?

Did you end up bring over the Accura? Did you have a Navi? I have my TSX here, (which I had no problem with at Strassenverkersamt btw.)

The only problem is with the built -in GPS, I can't track down a dvd with Euro maps! Any info would be greatly appreciated.
