Bikes on trains: kids bikes travel for free

My husband and I took our kids on a bike ride today. We went from Alpnach to Brünig by train and then rode back down. We loaded the bikes onto the train.

We paid:

1 x Full fare for ticket holder + 1 Full fare for the bike. If the full fare costs more than SFr. 15., you can buy a bike day pass that costs SFr. 15.-- for full fare ticket holders.

1 x 1/2 Price Fare + 1/2 Price fare for bike. If the half fare costs more than SFr. 10.--, half fare holders can buy a bike day pass that costs SFr. 10.--

Junior Card holders + their bikes go free on trains as long as there with one parent. Children do not have to pay for their bikes.

Children without Junior Cards must pay 1/2 price fare + 1/2 price for the bike.

Hope this clears up the bike + train fare questions.

Yeah it's an excellent service.

I took my family from Kreuzlingen to Stein am Rhein yesterday on our bikes.

We paid for 2 x adults (@ 1/2 price ea) + bikes (10.- ea each for the day) and the kids + bikes were free.

So Train Winti-Kreuzlingen, pedal to Stein am Rhein, then train back home to Winti

Excellent day out, highly recommended, and cheap fun for the family!

Like ChrisW, i walked with my bike to the train station then packed it in my bike bag. the conductor said nothing as i sit on an aisle and in the bus to the village near La Forclaz, the nice bus driver helped me to put it a baggage compartment. The same as going back. this happened was last year.
